Loss of taste?

I have been taking injections of MTX (in my 3rd week) along with 20 mil prednisone and folic acid. Had to stop MTX due to resp infection and going on antibiotics, am back on it now 1 week. Day's before that I noticed that I haven't been able to taste much. This has now been going on for over 2 weeks. I'm just not sure which of the above could be causing this. Has anybody else lost their sense of taste while on MTX?

Antibiotics are famous for affecting taste and smell but I've never had a problem with it during the 11 years I've been on MTX. Nor have I heard of anyone having that problem.

I'd blame it on the antibiotics and the upper respiratory infection which can also do it. Give it some time to come back but do tell your docs just in case. Important nerves involved with those senses.

That's weird, I was JUST reading about "muted taste buds". I just got over a pretty nasty cold/flu & noticed the exact same thing. And it's been lingering for a while!

Well, from what I read if you have/had a head cold & a lot of drainage from your sinus cavities will cause your sense of taste to be muted. Your sense of taste is connected to your sense of smell.

Not sure if you had "that type" of cold where you were all stuffed up & constantly blowing your nose but that's what happeend to me & my sense of taste is barely coming back in the last 2 days.

Thank you both for the replies. I had been looking over past entries and didn't see anyone post about this. I have had this happen before with nasal colds/congestion but this time it was all in my chest. I think you are both right, this is hopefully systematic of the cold/antibiotics and should go away. I really miss tasting the food. I guess if I can't blame it on the husband, I blame it on RA meds. :)

I've never lost my sense of taste, either on antibiotics or any of the multitude of RA DMARDS and biologics I have tried.

That goes to show that we all do respond differently to these meds. I hope your taste returns soon!

    I've been on high dose prednisone for pneumonia, and now I am slowly weaning. But lots of symptoms I don't like having, plus overeating has put at least 10 lbs on me. The food is "loud" as the GLP-1 users refer to it.Also pressured speech. Which comes out in my posts. Sorry I posted so much. I just need an outlet for my agitated and irritable brain.
