I'd blame it on the antibiotics and the upper respiratory infection which can also do it. Give it some time to come back but do tell your docs just in case. Important nerves involved with those senses.

That's weird, I was JUST reading about "muted taste buds". I just got over a pretty nasty cold/flu & noticed the exact same thing. And it's been lingering for a while!
Well, from what I read if you have/had a head cold & a lot of drainage from your sinus cavities will cause your sense of taste to be muted. Your sense of taste is connected to your sense of smell.
Not sure if you had "that type" of cold where you were all stuffed up & constantly blowing your nose but that's what happeend to me & my sense of taste is barely coming back in the last 2 days.
That goes to show that we all do respond differently to these meds. I hope your taste returns soon!
