Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
I started on MTX (methotrexate.) My rheumy stated the Plaquenil wouldn't work for me...not sure the reasoning behind it, but I"m guessing because of my high inflammation markers. 3 months on MTX and we added Arava. Another 3 months and we stopped the MTX and added Humira. I've been on Humira for 5 weeks now. I also have Tramadol, Hydrocodone and Ambien to use as needed.
Meds come with some scary side effects, but having severe joint damage is also scary. So go with meds!!
I hope they find what works for you quickly!!
I started with prednisone, then added methotrexate when the chest xray and TB test came back clean. Had problems with Humira, took a month's worth of Enbrel before having doctor problems, and am now trying Enbrel again.
I do work full-time. I'd love to cut back, but I bring home the health insurance, and my family insists we keep something called "food" around regularly!
Glad you got the information you need to start getting the right treatment. : )

I am working fulltime as a nurse. Luckily I am not in a position where I have to be on my feet all day. I don't think I could do that! I do case management and can be up and around for awhile and then sit and do computer/phone work for awhile. Right now the pain and fatigue are driving me nuts! Yesterday I needed to give two shots and almost had to ask someone to help me get the syringes open and filled. Yes, Tamiangus, that pissed me off as well! Nurses are notoriously bad at being sick!
I know who my primary doctor referred me to so I called his office this morning and am awaiting a return call. I plan on calling them every other day until I am seen.
Thanks again to all of you!
