iodine supplement?

I just read an article about iodine deficiency and how most people in the US have it and how it can cause many problems if you don't get enough. Anyone familiar with this mineral or have you tried it? thanks- Susie

I personally have not, but I had a former patient that used 7-8 iodine drops to 1 cup of water every day. She was 94 years old and still lived alone. I was her home health nurse. Everyone at the office thought she was coo-coo! But you know what, her constant swelling in her feet that she was taking massive amounts of Lasix for resolved and she never had another excacerbation of congestive heart failure (CHF). I took care of her for 8 months and she never had another episode of swelling in her feet whereas it had been documented daily for years! Now, she also had OA with joint deformity and the iodine did not touch that one bit. The pain in her hands and spine were her cheif complaints. She had me rub horse linament on her back but nothing ever took away her arthritic pain. She soaked white rasins in Gin and kept those in the fridge for her arthritis, taking 5 at a time ... not sure if it was the combo or the Gin ;) that helped with the pain.

Research iodine carefully before you consider it. Her doctor pleaded with her to stop taking it but she refused insisting it was helping and apparently something was working for her.

I have heard btw that raisins are extremely toxic because of all the pesticides and preservative chemicals....
