while in the hospital having it poured into me for pneumonia i did not sleep. i walked the halls.

and wonder of wonders i had those piano hands back. all the match joints slenderized immediately. and no pain! where was the pain? here they were trying to cure my pneumonia and the RA pain was gone. where did it go?

i carry those memories to sustain me in not succumbing. they don't offer anymore at the doc office

i will add sometimes aleve which puts a 10 percent bite into the pain. better than nothing.

I loved the pain relief I got on prednisone. I didn't like the weight gain or the emotional ups and downs. I'm generally quiet and easy going and it's extremely unusual for me to lose my temper. I just don't........but when I was first put on prednisone, oh the relief was wonderful until I was grocery shopping and in the meat dept. my husband made a comment that for some reason put me into a complete rage. I had been checking out a ham and without any thought,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I threw it at him! We've been married almost 27 years and he'd never seen me lose my temper like that. He was in shock, never saw such huge eyes on a person before. I called my doctor and told her I just could not take that anymore. She weaned me down until she hit 5 mg and that doesn't cause any behavior problems. My husband is very grateful. LOL@

Hello. I am still with achy hips and lower back....weak feel to hands hips. I am better on the pred. But i wont stay on it too long after reading these posts. I think my pred. Is causing some mood swings. All i do is worry that my rheumy wont give me mtx....worry that he will....worry that what aching i do have is eroding my joints...arghhhh but my mom taught me one thing for sure...it could be worse. God bless all of you who deal with RD.

I am going to begin a new drug for the RA and then begin the horrible process of weaning off the prednisone. It helped at first but now the dose I am on is not controlling the flares and I am having all of the side effects. I have gained 30 pounds, have muscle cramps, and I am emotionally "unreliable". Just completed a three day crying jag. Weird because I am usually a rock in tough situations. Hope the new meds work. Wish I hadn't started the prednisone.

i do love prednisone. but it made me emotionally crazy when i was on high dosage (60mg) once. i hated it. i even hate the weight gain with prednisone. but when my pains are gone, i feel much better and i cant live without it. i am stuck with it 1 mg everyday. trying to taper off, but its hard. but i love prednisone.

Oddly enough I had no mood swings first couple times & very little weight gain.
That all changed, yes my moods can get to the point I need a
"Enter at your own risk" sign.

I'm more wary of it then ever, with that said if I'm to the point my life is on the verge of spinning out of control with pain I'll relent & take a 3 week dose.
It's scary.
If I could sit home & not have to contribute to my family so much I'd attempt to avoid some doses. There are times I'm just to miserable.
I do not want to ever take it long term. To much all the way around.
