Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
I have SOB but I also have COPD which is not related to RA.
Most chronic pulmonary conditions will be the primary focus.
Apparently there is some enzymatic reaction with the lungs, and it is documented. I am starting to do this a bit with Orencia, but not nearly as bad as Rituxan after 3 years.
Google side effects for Humira, and see if shortness of breath is one. Sometimes when the lungs are already damaged (I have asthma) I think these side effects can be worse.
I hope you see a specialist and figure out what is going on.
I, however, did have shortness of breath with my first shot, about a minute after the shot.....part of an anaphylactoid reaction. So ask the doc if it could be the beginning of an allergic response and watch yourself carefully.

humira gave me heart failure within two months of starting it...please check with your doc -
I was so hoping that Humira would be the med for me. I'm on 10 mg prednisone daily now and I felt I could finally reduce because the Humira has started to kick in. In fact my doctor wants me to reduce and get down to 5 and I want to get the dose down myself. My rheumy said if I'm gonna take prednisone daily he wants me down to 5 mg or less and will give me enough to raise the dose for a few days if I have a flare. I so wish that 5 mg of prednisone was all I needed because I hate MTX because it makes me wheez and now I'm feeling crummy due to the shortness of breath. It is what it is. I'll keep trying.
Out of curiosity I started eating right a couple weeks ago and dropped some weight. I am the heaviest I've ever been and the extra weight makes me feel worse. While I'm working at eating healthy is there anything I could be eating or avoiding that can reduce the intensity of my RA? I normally favor conventional medicine and man made drugs but would love to feel better from this disease without all these nasty drugs.
I've had all the tests with a cardiologist, and they all turned out fine. Next stop is with a pulmonologist. I've read that prednisone can also cause it. I hope you find out the reason for yours. Since it started at the same time as your taking the humira, that would be my first guess. Good luck to you!
Grdy1963: About COPD: COPD can be either emphysema or chronic bronchitis, or both. Anyone who has smoked for any protracted period of time is more than likely to have emphysema..
There's something called costchondritis which I've heard some other RA patients complain of.
Very noticeable as it worsened with each injection.
I had no doubts that it was indeed the Cimzia.
Insurance insisted I had to try it before approving the Orencia.
Was more then a little upset as it took awhile to improve after stopping the injections.
Prime example why insurance should not dictate your medical treatments.
Hope you get some answers ASAP.
Take care.
