Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
It doesn't bother me as I don't feel like toasting my liver either! As it is, I need to have my labs drawn every two weeks because of my liver toxic drugs.
Take care,

I don't usually have a problem with this since I have never been much of a drinker and my friend's and family are used to it. However, I would tell them that you cannot drink because of one your medications. If they really care about you they will understand.
If it really bothers you maybe make a virgin version of your favorite drink. People won't know that there is no alcohol in it. I used to occassionally drink a drink made from Patron, citrone, sprite and palmagranite juice. I think it would be good without the Patron and citron but in the right glass still look like a cocktail.
If you want to have fun with it just tell them you are pregnant! LOL
Happy Holidays! Lori
i have had a couple of friends get incredulous and say things like, 'you mean you're NEVER going to have a drink again?' i just say i'm not planning on it. i'd think you could handle it a couple of ways. one is straight blame it on the doctor - after my last blood tests, he said no more drinking.
i had no booze while trying to conceive, while pregnant, breastfeeding, and the whole time on mtx. mtx. made me feel like such crap that i never missed it. every time i went off mtx for an infection like pneumonia i was too sick to think about having some cognac. go figure.
would you offer a diabetic a sugar cone? try that one.
hugs to all

try printing this out and handing it to the naysayer Tami:
In conclusion, consuming alcohol while taking Methotrexate may put your liver at risk for liver damage and cirrhosis. Although some patients may be able to get away with a few drinks once in a while, individual susceptibility to liver injury is highly variable and unpredictable and may relate to a number of other factors. Always be honest with your doctor about the use of alcohol and finally, remember to report on a regular basis for lab testing to ensure the continued safety of your Methotrexate therapy.

I suppose, too, there's always the old fallback of carrying around the same glass of wine (untouched or barely touched) all afternoon.
IF asked why not I respond I'm not in the mood for it.
If still pushed after that I ask them, "Seriously dude. If I was eating kelp, and offered it to you ,and you said no thanks, but I still kept pushing it, wouldn't you think that's a little rude?".
If they still push after that and won't leave it alone I act as if they don't exists. I don't respond to any of their statements, questions, etc. I'll also turn my back to them in mid sentence if they are still pushing to drink.
If they change the topic and quit asking then I turn around and shower them with attention. Funny how people can be trained like dogs. LOL Although some of them are the most stubborn of animals and take way more training then others!
The others are labs and retrievers.
