Does anyone else have this problem? Holding a book or magazine is like , really annoying pain for my hands......and what is up with those huge magazines ? you know, like Martha's /Oprah's, etc.

I keep trying to invent something to hold my books open for me while reading in bed.
I just feel crazy , struggling to hold a damn book !

I keep a solid laptop table next to bed. I can prop my netbook or a book on it while resting it on my knes. My fingers although relieved of most swelling have lost most of their mscle mass leaving my digits pretty useless! It is amazing what we able to conjur up in our heads when we need to invent new ways to do old things. good luck!

I also often lay on my stomach ( feet at my pillow) and prop up my arms and read that way. Afteer awhile it can strain your back but it is an option that does work.

I also had problems holding books so I purchased the Kindle, which I love. Iif you have one... then you might consider getting one of these:

I absolutely LOVE it! It not only protects the Kindle but it also has a kick stand and is hands-free. If I am having lunch, I just prop it up on the table and voila! When I am sitting in my favorite chair I do the same and other than changing the page... NO HANDS!
