I dont know if its common for Ra but i;m having heat issues as well.I am soo heat intolerant.I'm always opening windows and feeling faint if i feel warm.I'm already 3 years past menopause and my gyn dr said its not menopause anymore.maybe it is the ra.

I walked 15 min on my treadmill last night. My body heated up...by the time I got in the shower my arms were so fatigued I could barely lift them to wash my hair. I had to use cooler water to cool my body...my legs felt so heavy and tired. Ugh!!

I'm thinking it may not be common to rheumatoid disease. I sure don't see many other ra'ers saying it's a problem for them.

no. i have a problem with ice cold swollen joints and generally being cold 24/7. i can't heat the house to a temperature (about 68 to 78) that would make it happy for me to be here so I live in electric blankets.

i feel better under a hot shower or if i walk and get heated.

any chance it is blood pressure for you?

The heat is a problem for me too but I believe it is the prednisone. It makes me sweat like crazy and the temperature doesn't have to be very high in order to trigger it.

You have my sympathy. I spend a lot of time sitting in our garage half naked trying to cool down. No not menopause anymore. It's miserable.

Well, the cold hurts me too....my joints ache so I try to get them warm without heating my whole body. When I get cold my muscles get really stiff, especially thru my back, sides, shoulders....feels like I could break in half.

But the heat really knocks me down. My blood pressure is fine. I take it a few times each week.

I love your picture.....so glad we didn't get that much snow here....we had several dustings...here today, gone tomorrow. But when we get snie or ice on NE Texas, EVERYTHING shuts down...haha

Heat has always been a problem for me since before I showed any RA symptoms. I feel weak and nauseas with any type of heat. I SSA & SSB positive so maybe that's a factor for me.

boy, oh boy...maybe just the male perspective but BRING ON THE HEAT! I sweat extremely well but don't shiver worth anything.

It's winter here. I can only dream of heat. I've never noticed though if my fatigue got worse with extreme heat or not. I'll have to pay attention this summer and see.

I've always had problems with heat (and I'm not quite diagnosed with RA yet). I feel nauseous easily if I get overheated and, in fact, have had heat exhaustion twice in my life from heat, especially with humidity. The only way I can truly cool down is water, preferably a lake (we are surrounded by clean, refreshing lakes here in Michigan) or a pool (but, ugh, the chlorine). In fact, I often take a cool shower in the summer if it's hot. I tried a heating pad for my left foot and my back. Once each time. Heat does not help my pain.

Thanks for the replies. My doc told me at my first visit he thought I had several things going on. So I'm thinking this may not be in his scope of expertise.

Last year when I decided to find out what was wrong with me, I started with Endocrinologist for thyroid issues. Then moved on to Rheumatologist. This year I'm thinking I need to see one more doc...neurologist. Guess that's what happens when I ignore problems for 7 years...ugh. Have a good weekend!!

I recently saw my gyn in the past week and asked about the heat issues.she said i'm well past menopause and said it sounded like my thyroid.I have Hashimotos disease as well.Usually Hashimotos causes hypothyroidism and coldness,but it can swing back and forth between hyper and hypo symptoms.could it be your thyroid causing the heat issues i'm wondering?

Hi dd24, I have no problem at all with heat. I have a space heater in my room and sleep on a heated mattress pad cover. I am like Ros, I cannot get enough heat. I cannot keep the temp below 70 even at night so my heating bill in the winter is OTT (over the top). Also we have a lot of glass (sliding glass doors to back yard), and a cathedral ceiling in the living room. These things attribute to the heat to be bumped up especially since we have had a rough cold winter. Thank goodness I do not have a big house. In the summer when I am away I love to bask in the sun with appropriate sun block, but I love heat and warmth. Humidity...no. That causes the RA to act up.Cannot wait for the weather to change. At this point 40's looks good.

Thanks everyone. Living in NE Texas makes it hard on someone that'd heat sensitive! Today it is 75 degrees....tomorrow we are expecting sleet.
