All good thought to those in Colorado who might have been affected by the floods. Although we live in Boulder (the epicenter) we are out of the country for five months. We hear that our house is damp, but ok. Many others are not so lucky. And, stress is not something that anyone in our community needs. So, to my fellow Coloradans, or anyone anywhere who is once again learning that Mother Nature is a force to respect, I send you sunshine and healing.
There are still road and bridge closures, far fewer than Friday. I had appointments this morning so i got to look at the Poudre River several times. It is still over its banks in several places. It's is still "raging" but less so than on Saturday.
This morning there were lots of clouds, some drizzle, and fog. That grounded the rescue helicopters. Now all that has lifted and the helicopters have resumed getting people out of the canyons to the west.
Larimer and Boulder counties have a combined list of around 1200 people who are missing or unaccounted for. Some people are staying put. They have no electricity, running water, or phone service. They have been told that this is their best chance for getting out, that no one knows when or if the helicopters will return. With winter right around the corner I hope they understand what they're getting into. Many of the more populated canyons have lost portions of the roads. It will take quite a bit of time to repair roads.
silentnoon, I think we will have sunshine tomorrow. There may be some isolated rain showers tonight but the forecast for the rest of the week into the weekend is pretty dry.
Aside from people stranded in the canyons of the foothills, the other bad place is to the east. The four raging rivers all converge and flow into the South Platte River which is now way outside its banks. The farmland and ranchland on the eastern plains is flooded. Many horses and cattle have been rescued and moved to dry land.
It will be wonderful to see the sunshine and the Colorado blue skies again.

Saturday night we had the most intense thunderstorm I have ever been in, and that includes being within a couple of miles of a tornado and camping in a tropical storm. (My husband still isn't quite forgiven for that one.)
I saw on this morning's news that 17,000 houses have been destroyed in Colorado. What the fires didn't get, the rains are finishing off. Silentnoon, great time to be out of town. Even if your house is fine, the roads, power, water, sanitation aren't. Nancy, glad you got where you needed to go.

This morning I see the sun rising for the first time in a week. This makes me happy, the hens are happy, and even the flocks of geese sound happy! May this continue. We really need to dry out.
altocelf, my friends in NM are also amazed at all the intense rain. We all needed moisture, but not this way.
