Woke up this morning in pain. I ache all over and hands wrists knees shoulders in pain. Seen the eye doctor today (have RA in the eye) and its swollen again. Called the rheumy today and he perscribed prednisone again... this time different. 10mgs a day for 2 wks then 5mgs for 2 wks then quit and come in. Never took them like that before. Also had to increase enbrel to 2 x a week. Has anyone taken the pred that way before? And would like to know how long flares last for you?

When I get a flare real bad, I take 40mg then taper off 30,20,10,5. It helped me within 30 min of taking the initial dose.
Pred is my friend.
I didn't know you could get RA in the eyes. I go to the eye Dr. next week because I have trouble seeing. I thought it was the side effect from the Pred. Seems like I read something like that before.

When I have a flare the usual routine for me is 20 mg Pred. for two weeks, then 10 mg for two weeks, then 5 mg x 2 weeks, then off. Yep, RA can affect the eyes. It can also affect the voice and/or swallowing as there is the hyoid bone in the neck that can become inflamed. RA can also cause tendinitis as it can attack the ligaments and tendons. Ain't RA special??? The disease that just keeps giving!!!!!
