My rheumy just prescribed me Enbrel and he didn't mention not to drink. But, I limit myself to no more than 2/week anyway because of the methotrexate.

I will watch this post because I am not sure I want to start enbrel if I can't enjoy a beer on the patio after work somedays. There has to be some other factors to quality of life:)

I am on MTX Embel and more, and last night I actually had two strawberry margaritas. boy did they taste good. I didnt have any problems, maybe just got tired faster. haha

I was on enbrel for a wee bit, but am on kineret now. As with combining and medication with alcohol - it's probably not a good idea to make a habit of it. Being Irish though, I have had the occasional drink whilst on my meds, and have always been fine. I limit my self to 3 a month, and no more than 2 in any one week. Alcohol is very hard on your liver, as is most of the medications we take.

I limit myself to 2 a week. Just last night we tried a new bistro here. I had two margaritas and they were amazing!
If I had to give them up altogether I would be totally bummed.;-)

As you probably recall, I am on Enbrel and Mtx.

I too have a couple of glasses of wine (okay sometimes a few more) once a month or so. Enbrel, MTX and prednisone. In fact the only one that says not to drink is the MTX I think.

Yes i love Margaritas too. Ok then, I'll have onever now and then. I did have onea month agoad was fine also . I think it is b/c of Liver problems that can arise. I'll see what my Rheumy says in July and let you all know.

I have done a little bit of researching on other websites and it appears that enbrel doesn't seem to have drinking restrictions....others do like MTX and NSAIDS. Both of which I am on and my rheumy still says it is OK in moderation and never more than 2 per week.

You can always call your pharmacist too.

I did take enbrel and drink wine occasionally - probably not a good idea but I don't appear to have been harmed by it. I was only on enbrel a few months.

My RA doc was adamant that I not drink any alcohol while on MTX. I felt like I was going to be given a stack of Bibles to swear on! I take MTX and celebrex. The doc said it was due to liver function being impaired with them.

Since I was told I can't have alcohol, I think about having a marguarita, lol... silly, isn't it? (Being a bit of an outlaw at times, wonder what he would say about a bit of cannibis???) But as we know, smoking is bad for us...

I would say have one once in awhile, anyway.

I'm on Enbrel and MTX and I was told by my Rheumatologist that a drink once in awhile is okay. I'm not a huge drinker, but every once in awhile a glass of wine or a beer (and the occasional margarita) is nice to have. No real side effects that I can feel, but I limit it to one.

Well since I can't find any studies (and believe me I have SEARCHED! that really prove or disprove that MTX and alcohol spells death for your liver I am doing everyone a service by doing a study of my own starring me. My doctor was absolutely appalled when I told him I have 2 glasses of wine on both Saturday & Sunday AND a martini on each day as well. He was fit to be tied! Well guess what? Pre RA I had a martini every day of the week and 2 on each day of the weekend. My husband drinks and will not stop in front of me and all my friends drink way more than me. If I have to give this up then it's too depressing to go on. It's bad enough dealing with the RA. Alcohol helps me unwind and I have a very stressful life. They have PILLS for that he told me. Oh OK you are socializing with friends and they are sopping cocktails and I say let me throw this pill down my throat- crap on that.
Do I worry about it? Yeah I do- but not enough that I stop. I did give up a lot already. I think maybe the warning is for MTX levels people have to take for cancer- not our dose. Maybe I'm wrong. I have my blood tests every 2 months and I have always been in the low normal range for liver enzymes. Maybe my liver is a good worker. LOL.
It's not funny- I know and I am not advocating this for anyone else. I just seem to be the minority when this subject comes up and I wonder how many me's are actually out there.....
AND MTX really keeps me in check for the most part. The one time I had to go off for 3 weeks due to an infection I had my first and only flare since onset so I can't give it up either.

I just saw my liver specialist last week and he said no one on mthx should ever drink alcohol. I also know a number of people who only drink at Christmas, and say their liver enzymes go up. I haven't had a drink in 30 years, and it has helped me.

I guess if you want to drink and mix, you would be advised to get tested monthly. If you stays normal it is probably ok. I really enjoy my life tremendously without it, so that works for me.

By the way, anyone on Kineret, it clears through the kidneys, so it won't affect the liver at all. However, if it is in combination with mthx, the mthx will. No hope for the wicked.

I'm on MTX and my Rheumatologst has said no alcohol. I do know that, if liver levels are OK for three months, he will then allow one or two drinks a week (sure hope so). It's not that I need to drink to enjoy myself but I do like to have a glass of wine if I'm out for dinner.
I happily went for 5 months without drinking alcohol when I was first on Effexor some years ago. Once he was sure I was stable, my doctor then allowed me to have a glass of wine. A dear friend of mine said that was when I started to improve. LOL
