Deanna, you should think about returning yours, especially as you only bought it in December. I have a Sunbeam and, on the highest setting, it is really HOT.

i agree - bring it back to the point of purchase and explain, or contact the manufacturer. i got a sunbeam in december, my first heated blanket, and i really like it. it gets hot enough for me on 5 or 6.

I've been researching them for my birthday. That sunbeam fleece didn't have good reviews for that reason. Most failed completely in less than 2yrs.

I'm interested to see what others recommend. I am definitely getting one in a couple weeks.

i have been at this electric blanket thing for about 15 years. (it first had to do with not being able to supply enough oil in the east coast winter season to keep myself adequately warm). I could zone the heat in the kids part of the house, but not in my bedroom a separate zone. so i turned to these blankets. I have had the best luck with biddeford. biddeford has also swapped out completely my blankets when i mailed them for malfunction as well as the on/off dial mechanisms. buy on amazon if you can find a four star only or buy at bed and bath online with an online coupon.

As I hate the cold, really, REALLY hate it and having been assigned in the northeast for years along with several winters in northern Utah, I cruised into WallyMart one day and bought 2 electric throws for about $23 each. Very nice cozy flannel coverings and 5 heat levels with auto off - one at 3 hours and one at 5 hours -

Yeap, you guessed it - one on top and one on the bottom. I slept in basically a toaster for years - LOVED it.

They wore out after the 3rd year - back to WallyMart and so on. Machine washable and very portable - all over the apartment(s)
