FINALLY... Dr. House has a life threatening case where the underlying cause is Rheumatiod Arthritis.
In the TV show's past there have been many differentials mentioning RA but never it actually been the cause. Score 1 for inflamatory arthritis in mainstream media!
Dr. House has had Lups patients, Sarcoidosis, MS and other rare autoimmune patients - but this is his first with RA that almost killed them.
ITS about time that somebody started protraying RA as the serious disease that it is.
Now the chances of the complication this espisode described actually happeneing is pretty much NIL - but hey Dr. House is in the business of really wierd rare stuff.

I confess, I was thrilled to hear that RA was treated so seriously.But another complication of RA? Yikes! Organs shutting down one by one? I guess I will have to hope the Rituxan will keep my blood viscosity like soy sauce. LOL
If its bizzare and seemingly un-related symptoms its ALWAYS something auto-immune on Dr. House.
Its funny I didn't watch this series for the first two years. I thought it was awful and couldn't stand the Dr. House Character. That was of course BEFORE I got sick. I can't beleive its the 8th season of the show.
After I got sick I started watching re-runs and got caught up on the first 2 years then started watching it regularily. Now that I was also in chronic pain, the house Character made alot more sense and I even started to relate. Pretty scary when you can understand why a character (person) might be desperate enough to shoot heroin to deal with chronic pain.
Luckily I was better tempered than Dr. House to begin with so I was only a little B!t$chy when in pain, but I totally understand the character's impatience and short temper.
I think most viewers just think the guy is a real jerk/ass but we here all know how much of that characters bad behavior is the pain and not the person. Oh yeah... and the drug addiction can't forget that.
Oh, BTW Lynn . . . there is also an underlying suspicious that House has Asperger's, hence his disability to play well with others . . . .
