Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...

My three-month appointment with the rheumatologist was yesterday. She gave me the go-ahead to get the booster, and we talked about how to time my other meds (the shot of Stelara I got that morning was irrelevant, but I'm to skip the methotrexate next week, and wait for a ten day interval from the booster shot before resuming it.) I was able to get the booster shot less than an hour after my appointment. I had to show my vaccine card to ensure that there was a six month interval since my second shot.
Otherwise my appointmet was uneventful. At the prior one, we had discussed switching biologics. She asked if I'd given that any consideration, and I told her that when I checked my "RA journal", I found that I had been consistently tired and achy at my June visit each of the last four years, and I now suspect that it's more of a seasonal problem with farmwork triggering inflammation. Her records, when she checked, showed that at that apointment each year, I'd said that I wasn't sure what we were doing was working too well, but by the following (Sept) appointment each year, I seemed better. So I decided to stick with what we're doing and make some changes in how many extra hands I hire here seasonally, and see if I can't flatten that curve a bit next year. I'm switching from Meloxicam to Celebrex (which I've taken in the past without problems) because my hands are more swollen than either of us would like to see at this point in the game.
Mostly - and this did not come from my rheumatologist specifically - I'm realizing that the best thing I can do for my RA is get my weight down, manage my blood sugar and blood pressure better (both are consistently marginal) and, overall, deal better with stress. Of course it's a stressful world right now, which makes that an extra challenge, but on the other hand, if I can learn to meditate / exercise / create my way past stress durng climate change and a pandemic, I can probably be pretty certain that I've go the de-stressing thing down pat, right?

I've been on high dose prednisone for pneumonia, and now I am slowly weaning. But lots of symptoms I don't like having, plus overeating has put at least 10 lbs on me. The food is "loud" as the GLP-1 users refer to it.Also pressured speech. Which comes out in my posts. Sorry I posted so much. I just need an outlet for my agitated and irritable brain. Just scroll on by my posts, if they are too...

I haven't been around in a long time. I am admin in a private group, and I would like to upgrade someone else to that position. I thought I knew how to do that, but the prompt has gone missing. Or is it not allowed to upgrade someone else to admin? I just find "ban and demote" under "Edit." I don't get notifications to DS anymore, but I wil come back in a few days to find out the answer. There...
Cimzia has all but failed for me. The pain has been so bad lately, I went back to using Plaquenil. It worked immediately. Like the last time, it stops flares in my very small joints, hands & feet. My hands felt normal by the end of the day. But, my stomach started to ache, and I could not sleep, the same sort of wide awake insomnia I had before with HCQ. So I didn't take it today, and I have regretted it. It's bad enough when you can't find a med that works. But when you find one, but the side effects keep you from taking it, it is frustrating & annoying!!
I had a muscle in my left thigh go crazy tonight. So I did a bunch of stretches and it is feeling better. Need to exercise daily, get on the bike, and lose weight, regardless of the prednisone.
I don't know how you keep a farm going with this disease! You are a hero! But don't hurt yourself by pushing too hard!
I voted in the advance polls for our Canadian election today. I did NOT vote for Trudeau. We shall see whether the mail in votes
are rigged. Lots of people complaining g they got ballots for their grandparents who have been dead 20 years.
I got my flu shot on Monday a week ago and I've been sick since. Not sure if I got a touch of the flu or mild COVID from being out or just a cold, but my nose would not stop running. No fever or sore throat so I didn't go to the doctor or take a test.
