I have Sjogren's Syndrome and RA and have noticed that my hands burn like yours. I have also noticed that my hands itch a lot. Some days I feel like I have to scratch them until they are raw to feel any relief. I don't know if it is conected to the diseases or just coincidence. I haven't been put on prednisone yet. I have been on Plaquenil for 2 years and took methotrexate for about 6 months but have been off of it for 4 months. I am not much help but wanted you to know that you are not alone.

I also get that a lot, but really it gets worse when going from a colder area to a warmer house or building. There's not really a whole lot you can do to stop it. Aleve doesn't really help at all. Gloves help a little, but they have to be some classy gloves. I'm sorry!

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but if you are on prednisone or have been on it make sure when they do the blood work check up to make certain the prednisone isn't eating your liver away that they include a blood glucose check as well. I think most places automatically add this into the list but it's good to ask anyway.

There's enough support out there to say prednisone can help to initiate (some even say it causes it) the onset of type two diabetes of which itchy palms/hands can be one of the symptoms.

It's usually the meds that make mine itch but just so you aren't blind sided by another but highly treatable disease it's good to have it checked too. ;-)

Hi, sorry about your diagnosis. I have never read anything about burning hands being a symptom. If its any kind of allergy the Prednisone should help. The Pred will give you some fast relief, but you should be reading up on the other stuff so you can make a wiser decision. I have done pretty good on just Methotrexate and folic acid. I sure hated to take such a toxic medicine, but the options are all pretty bad. Try to stay positive, get a Rheumy and pray a lot.

You are not alone and the posts to this question give you a lot of information. Prednisone is the drug we love and hate - it can offer immediate relief but can also present some severe side effects - like pushing you over into active diabetes. The lab suggestion is a good one - you need to get your blood sugar tested because diabetes can be serious. However, they also need to check your cholestrol (prednisone can create a problem) and possibly have a bone density test.

I know it sounds tough, but RA is a difficult disease and we just have to get through it the best we can. Being aware of our treatment and the consequences is an important part of getting through it.

I complained about joint pain and burning in my hands for months before I finally was dx'd w/ RA. My hands burn most of the time. I know exactly what you mean about feeling like they've been set on fire! My whole body generally feels hot (I even sweat for no reason whatsoever - and I'm far too young to be getting hot flashes!), but my hands are the worst. My rheumy put me on prednisone when I was first dx'd, when I was in a bad flare and my hands were horrible - it helped me pretty much within a day or two. Best meds I've been on - too bad the side effects of long term prednisone are so bad :(

I have a burning feeling in my hips a lot of the time. I don't know if it's the same feeling you are experience but if it is then it is probably RA related.

So common with RA it really goes for the hands and feet for some reason.My hands are so much different now than before I had RA.The structure has changed the way I perceive pain everything about my hands has changed after I was dx with RA.Ppl tell me they would never know I had RA unless I told them but I can tell and if you look carefully the knuckle on my rt pointer finger is huge compared to the one on my left.Gosh I hate RA but just my advice pls continue with your meds because the inflammation that will take place if you don't is what will cause the joint damage and subsequent disfigurement.Best of Luck To You>-Cookie
