Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. The disease is also systemic in that it often also affects many extra-articular tissues throughout the body including the skin, blood vessels, heart, lungs, and...
(I hope it doesn't get much worse for you, too!)
Just kidding...on here, as I'm sure you've read, we have possibly the best dang group of thoughtful people on the net! So glad that you decided to drop in finally.
It is great that you have a pool! When you are allowed, you will have instant access to what many on here say is the best exercise for RA. Alot of us can't do much right now --either "yet" or "again" or "still"!---but I for one would love to have a pool in my yard!
I'm optimistic that you seem to be getting treatment so soon...AND optimistic for ALL of us, because we have effective medications for the most part (quit laughing DSers!) and possibly even better ones on the way.
I've found DS to be "just what I need" for perspective, optimism, honesty, support, and information. We're glad you are here.

Welcome aboard. You will find this site you to be very helpful indeed. I wish I could tell you that you won't get worse, but as many of us will tell you it probably will. I was dx in dec'08 and started out just like you. The great thing is that you have found a wonderful Rheumy, that understands what you are going through. You will also find that alot of you friends will give you advice on what they read will help your RA and so on, they confuse RA with arthritis as in OA, which does not cause the destruction of the bones and tissue as RA does. It is good to get the Meds early on, because that can help you very much. I started Methotraxate(MTX) 3 weeks ago and it does take a few weeks to get into your system. I am also on Pred 10 mg a day right now because of a flare in my Knee and wrist. Most of us function pretty well, because of the meds we are forced to take. I used to think Vitamins is all I needed. Not. Sorry to be so blunt, but we are also here to lend support when you need it, we all care about each other. We all have the same disease, just some of us experience it differenlty, and thats what's great here, because you hear different stories and advise all the time.

Everyone on this site is wonderful. If you have any questions, this is a great place to get answers...
One other thing regarding Plaquenil...I have been on it for probably 13 years now... If you get the recommended eye exams every 6 months, there should be no problem... My eye doctor said he has never had anyone experience eye problems from Plaquenil. But I understand your concerns...Just wanted to try to allay your fears!
Again Welcome! Hope you find the right meds and treatments! Good Luck!
Happy to have you here...hugs jilly
This is a great group you choose well.
We laugh together, cry together and best of all whine together.
Stay well, enjoy life and don't let the RA bite.
I really hope you enjoy being one of the fabulous members of this exceptionally good group. Look forward to seeing you around. Cheers.

I got a warm fuzzy just from reading your original post. I think it's the positive attitude you convey in it that did it to me. Thanks!
I can't imagine trying to run a business - with my husband - and with RA. You go girl! (can I pull off saying that? I didn't think so. :-D )
Thanks for joining us and I look forward to hear how your RA journey goes.
