I was on 25mg for sleep about 10yrs ago for chronic fatigue syndrome but never for pain. It's a tricyclic anti-depressant. It worked great & elevated my mood. I stopped after it put 50# on me. But no other anti-depressant worked that well again.

The drowsiness usually get better in a couple of weeks or so.

I have taken Norotryptyline,(or spelled something like that) but gave it up when it started to cause panic attacks. It is a similiar med...but if your dose is still bothering you, maybe call your Dr and see what you should do.

I was on it for sleep - to help me sleep. Took 5mg a night. It worked so well! I miss that sleep. If it helps, just try doing the minimal amount and only at night. It also was somewhat uplifting. Weaning off it was not so easy because it was tied to sleep versus pain. Still, I would do again.

I was put on amitriptyline a long time when my diagnosis was fibromyalgia. It was designed to improve sleep patterns and help with pain. It was a very low dose and did help at the time.

I've never taken Elavill but at my last Rheumy appointment, I let him know about my shoulder pain. He performed an Ultrasound right then on my shoulder and saw fluid and arthritis.

He gave me a steroid shot with an anesthetic in it. The pain in my left shoulder was gone immediately. What a great feeling.

Now, my right shoulder is bothering me in the exact same way so I'm sure there us arthritis there as well. I'm going to ask him to inject both shoulders when I see him in about three weeks.
