I have been sick now for about 2 weeks. Came back from vaca sick. I no voice again. went to the dr. I have abscess in my right tonsil and back of my throat. Also I. My ear canal. I have never had it this bad before but my methotrexate recently upped from 4 pills to 6. Anyone kno if that could be the cause.

Do you have epstein bar?? mono....that sounds like mono ..have you ever had it ?
once you have it it is always there , are you extra fatigued ...sorry if this doesnt help .

I know several people get sores in their mouths from mtx...but I haven't heard of them in ear canals. I'd definitely be calling the rheumy! Maybe ask about switching to a different med. Those are some horrid side effects that you don't need.

I haven't been diagnosed with ebstein bar or mono but I hav wondered. I am very fatigued. But I am anemic low b12 low potasium and others. I hav had trouble getting those probs. fixed I'm on all kinds of meds for it. So it's hard to tell why I'm tired.

kim...maybe if you can et checked for ebstein bar (mono) just for a peace of mind..that might explain alot ..also can be a factor in autoimmune dieases ...
i was hospitalized a few years back with it ..it was horrible ..and i am a older person not a kid , it took me along time to have any amount of energy then it just flowed into RA ..and i have a sneaky feeling lupus is traling this ..good luck , id get it checked out ..
i had horrible open sores in the back of my throat and on tonsils and also ear issues ..and nooooooo energy to evern get up to eat ...sooooo i hope this helps you ..only a thought .. goodnight

Haven't had an abscess on my tonsils/ear canal but just had my saliva glands abscess 3wks ago which also caused abscesses on my lips & tongue. (But I've had tonsillitis 100 times and more dental abscesses than I can count) No fun at all!

I had to stop the mtx/Humira and go on 3 rounds of strong antibiotics..my lymph nodes are still swollen and don't know when I can start the meds again.

My pharmacist said it takes 3-4 days for the mtx to get out of the system and about 10days for the Humira.

I hope you feel better...it sucks when you can't chew or swallow because of pain..and ear pain is horrible too! This wacky disease causes the strangest things doesn't it??

I got sick after vacation also. I think I was just really pushing myself during vacation and didn't rest enough. It was still worth it though. I would definitely call the rheumatologist. Rest a lot and really baby yourself. Sore throat and ear pain are no fun at all! I wish you well and I hope you feel much better soon!
