Since I started MTX my menstrual cycle has been a bit strange but recently it got back on time. Today however, there was a blob of blood in my urine. I did have a pap smear this year and evrything was fine. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the drugs I am taking (enbrel or MTX). Has anyone experienced this before?

iv been on both together but iv also been on birthcontrol so i control my periods for the most part but never had this problem

Oh my word even on birth control pills and then later on depro-provera shot for birth control MTX changed the length, fluidity, color, smell, and timing to some degree etc. for me.

The amount of NSAIDS I take also affect it but not as much as the MTX itself.

What even played more havoc with it was prednisone! Argh!

I've had all my parts removed so I can't tell you what's going on but you should contact your RA's office, your GP or your Gyne - don't delay you never know what you are dealing with. Let us know how it goes...hugs jilly

Being on MTX changed my cycle to lighter than it had been (they say because it slows down the proliferation of rapidly dividing cells and causes your endometrium(lining of your uterus) to not get as thick. But I have also had some recent irregularity of my cycles even though I am on BC pills.(not sure if that is related). Some of them would start early or late and a couple would last for 10-14 days even though they would not be heavy(just Aggravating).

To SMITH101--what did prednisone do to you with your cycles?? I haven't noticed any change yet but haven't been on it but for 1 cycle so far--Just Curious?????

Funny you say that because I was wondering the same thing. I am on Enbrel and didn't have a period at all last month?? And I know I am not pregnant-husband got snipped. So, I wonder too if it is related. I am going to look it up. Erica

Hi all. Just an update on this. I did go and get a pap smear and the gynae tells me I am fine. I definately think these drugs play havoc with our cycle.

Good! That has to put your mind at rest. Had my hysterectomy over 10 yrs ago-so that pesky menstrual thing never factored into my RA. I still say out of all the internal organs they've pulled out of me, the uterus was my favorite to see go!!
