Rhabdomyolysis Support Group
Rhabdomyolysis is the breakdown of skeletal muscle due to injury. The result of this process is renal failure due to accumulation of muscle breakdown products in the bloodstream, which are injurous to the kidney. Treatment is with intravenous fluids, and dialysis if necessary. The main therapeutic measure is hyperhydration (by administering intravenous fluids), and if...
I have an appointment on 1/23 with rheumatologists to go over all my tests. I am still very weak, but thank God not as much pain. I still have to have help getting my drawers on, lifting my right leg into the car, Climbing stairs is still hard. My left arm is weaker then my right. I am anxious to find out what is going on.

It's been a really devastating process, and the people in my life don't seem to understand the emotional trauma of rhabdo. I get what I call "Rhab attacks" - anxiety attacks relating to rhabdo - and I think I may see a doctor to get a prescription to help with the anxiety.
I ended up at the hospital were I finally was able to provide a urine sample and it came out black with a lot of material in it. The medical term is "tea" because it looks exactly like when your tea pouch rips and all of the tea swims in your cup of water.
After the analysis of my urine I was informed I had Rhabdomyolysis. The doctor said I had pushed myself as much as a marathon runner does. The first two days I thought I was going to die. When I closed my eyes I saw psychedelic images like and LSD trip in the movies, one time I even saw hell. I could not even pray, my mind was not there. The doctor said it was the excess nitrogen in my body that was causing that. I ended up on Dialysis. This is not FUN. The first day you are literally drained of blood to get it basically "rinsed". That one day you have no energy, then on the off day you want to sleep and rest cos' you are so tired. The first day They removed 6lbs of water from me. The next few sessions were no less in the amounts. I ended up on 5 sessions of Dialysis. My creatinine by the way was 8 when it should normally be between 0.6 and 1.59. (GULP). By the 5th session I did not need Dialysis as my creatinine had hit 5. I was also starting to urinate by myself. I started out with 2 oz and in two weeks was urinating 100 ounces per day. The nephrologist said there was a possibility I would acquire hyper tension or high blood pressure. As of late January my creatinine was 1.60 and I have no issues with high blood pressure or hyper tension. By late January I felt like none of this had happened. All I can say is if this happens or just happened to you, be very patient as it takes time for all the garbage to exit the body. Also VERY IMPORTANT do what the doctor says, NO sodium, no potassium, no junk food, etc., etc., adhere highly to what the doctor recommends. The doctor also said I can do everything normally again , he just did not recommend putting myself through such physical extremes again. The kidneys suffer a little bit of an irreparable damage, but I can still go on with my life. It is worth the wait, you will recover if you take care of yourself. Trust in the LORD is what I did and here I am getting to tell you all. Be safe.
