Discussion, question-and-answer, general social support, and journal processing for progress-oriented rape survivors. I'm not sure this is even possible, but I think there is a way I, as the founder, can change the name of any group.
I wonder if our group has evolved to needing another name?
When I first created this group, it was conceived as a way for people to interact with the author of a book and do Q/A about it. But the group has become so much more than that! This group is NOT about a book, it's NOT "Matt's group", and it's not oriented around me at all--which I like. I also notice that we have a lot of members here because they feel comfortable and appreciate the group bond and health, but they may not be rape survivors themselves. Our group tends to be remarkably welcoming, and I have never seen any hint of exclusion based on "so-and-so isn't a rape survivor; she is s/he doing here?" We have among us survivors of emotional abuse, domestic violence, stroke, infant loss, family suicide, spiritual crisis, body dysmorphic disorder, borderline personality disorder, substance abuse, and many other things. I'm wondering if "Resurrection After Rape" is too specific a group title? What about all those seeking recovery from many other things?
It's not something I insist on, but please discuss this: does our group name encapsulate what it should as it is, or would we benefit from a slightly broadened name? And if so, what do you suggest? After all, this is YOUR group, not mine, and I'd appreciate the input.

lol just kidding, I will think about it....I mean I have never really thought there was any issue with the name, even after it began to 'evolve' if you will...I see your point though.
I'm not convinced there needs to be a name change, I was just hoping that all our members felt welcomed because I have some very good friends here who are active, but not survivors of rape, specifically. I just don't want them to feel they are aliens among club members.

But if this became a free-for-all we would be bound to get lots who couldnt understand and be supportive. We have already had a few leak through.
I just want this to remain a safe place. Because I personally do not post in any other group anymore because it's not safe.
I haven't been on this site all that long...only since Jan really. Someone new to RAR had commented on how 'tight' I was others here. It got that way in a short time, because I jumped in. I think that's what people realize after a while.....They control how much they interact and I for one don't mind other topics being discussed...other issues and worries being brought out for support. So I guess this question would better be posed to those that would like to join in ,that have no rape trauma, but have other life experiences that they need help with.

I think the points raised about the negative impact of broadening the group's focus make sense to me. What drew me here is the name of the group and the description and, yes, "That Damn Book".
What I also appreciate is that there are no "posting police" who go around pretending as if the only issues in our lives are rape, and that we are out of line if we post about anything else. Nor did we have to go to some arduous process in order to join, to make sure we were the "right fit".
In the short time I've been here, you have become my family and, at times, my lifeline. Sorry if I get a bit anxious at the idea of things changing.
Okay, I didn't read the prior posts, but as I type this, I can see post number 10, from StehtFest...and she is alot like me -- I hate change. I simply love this the way it is. That's all.
