Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.
Hi all, I just joined this group as I have a tumor in my left kidney and recently an enlarged lymph node. The tumor was discovered 6 years ago and biopsy revealed angiomyolipoma. I have been having follow up scans and no change until August when a ct revealed lymph node enlargement, another ct in December and the tumor and lymph node have both increased in size. My urologist suspects cancer but I am waiting for an appointment with the urologist who diagnosed angiomyolipoma for a second opinion.
I'm out of my mind with worry, my energy levels have also sucked for several years now and I don't why, has anyone here had anything similar? This waiting is killing me

I'm sorry to read of your recent diagnosis. I hope my little note will help. In 2012 I had cancer in my left kidney, 3 tumors....I made the decision to have the kidney removed completely. I've remained, Thanking God, cancer free!!. I was in hospital for 2 days, no pain, just a little unsteady on my feet for a few days. Currently my gfr is fluxing 27-30% kidney function with one kidney...my dr says I could go for years and years at this level.
Just wondering if you have had a gfr blood test yet on your kidney....this is done to show how your kidney is filtering....there are 5 stages. Depending on where you are, might be a good idea to start a kidney diet. No processed foods, lower protein of skinless chicken, fish, fruits and veggies...no coke. If you are not a water drinker, try to drink half your body weight in filtered water...I use a brita filter and gallon jug.
There is a website called Davita.com...there is a lot of info there, plus they have free classes to teach you about kidney....you might want to have your thyroid checked as well as the kidney and thyroid work together. I'm not a dr, so please ask your dr prior to doing anything I've suggested.

Thank you so much for your reply. I looked at my blood test results and there is gfr 77, I guess that’s pretty good? I have 1 1/2 kidneys as the one without a tumor is only half functioning so nephrectomy will leave me with half. Did you have any symptoms before the tumors were discovered? I just feel so tired all the time and feel like such a wimp because my energy is so low.

Your gfr level is Great! Very Happy For You!!!....still I get the waiting is really hard. Energy is a non word for me, I've got None. Just something to think about, yuck...if you aren't having daily bowel movements you're probably dehydrated....it's crazy hard to drink half body weight in water, sometimes I feel like my life surrounds just trying to get in fluids. The other thing is are you anemic? That is a possibility too with ckd....check your red blood cell count...for me, its kind of hard cause I'm on limited protein intake. Your thyroid works together with your kidney too....if you have thyroid issues, that will cause you to be tired, loose or gain weight. Still I get you about being tired...hard to get out of bed in the cold winter months :( January is nearly over Amen!!! Take Good Care and Best to you~~
