Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) Support Group
Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.
It always gives me a laugh when I realise our three daughters (especially the youngest one) have become our mother - role reversal!!! Of course I know your daughters only have their dad's best interests at heart. I think the decision has to be his. It sounds as though he had an excellent prognosis after surgery and recovered well. If he is not ready to retire yet it could well be the wrong thing to do. He'll know when it's the right time but it has to be his decision.
I hope you can talk to your daughters because I also understand what they are feeling.
Hugs

does his job allow your husband to work part time? I am not sure if it is a state or federal rule that if you work 30 or 32 hours you are entitled to benefits like insurance coverage and vacation time. does he do the kind of work that may allow him to telecommute?
do you live in an area conducive to retirement? if all your friends and neighbors work he may eventually find that being home at loose ends is not a very pleasant experience. in other words, he needs to be mentally and physically engaged. it is great to wake up and have no need to be anywhere. but that feeling wears off soon enough and some sort of routine and activities must replace years of going to work. good luck and be well, Rich (radical nephrectomy 8/09)
To me, it's an individual decision for sure. My Hubby is currently not working but misses it dearly. Alot of men consider work one of their hobbies and enjoy it. As long as he has the ability and desire, I say gofer it! Will help keep him young!
