Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) Support Group

Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.

Doc office just called to give me results from my CT scan this past Thursday.
There is something showing up on my left kidney. This is the same kidney that the partial nephrectomy was done on in November 2009.
They aren't sure what it is. It could be just a cyst, but the radiologist needs the old cancer scan to compare it to. (we have sinced moved to a different state)
SO, prayers and good thoughts greatly appreciated.

it is possible your former provider has the scans on file. you are entitled to a copy.

one of the first docs I saw after being diagnosed suggested I always ask for the disk or film along with the written report; and when I walk into my doc's office I have the last two years of my life (radical nephrectomy 8/09) in my hands. it always helps to have your history handy. good luck & be well, Rich

Hello friends. I saw the new urologist in Dallas. She says there are two spots, one on my residual left kidney and one on my right. They are very small right now, so the advice is to wait 4 months, and then repeat with an even more detailed CT scan at that time. They also found a possible issue related to my stomach surgery, which could be a possible intussessuption, which can be pretty serious, so I sent all that information to my surgeon yesterday. I now live in the Dallas area, and my surgeon (stomach) is in Lubbock, so if I need yet another surgery related to that, I will have to travel back to Lubbock. But, I will do whatever I need to do. Also, as an added bonus, our new Retiree Health Insurance pretty much sucks. My co-pay for the CT last week was $300. Before we retired, it was $0. And of course now we pay ALL of our insurance costs (over $600 per month), whereas our employers used to pay the majority of that. So, now we pay triple for insurance, and HUGE co-pays for everything. I know most of you can relate.

Bev , good thing you are getting regular scans so you know whats going on inside .The cost of health insurance is the scary thing ! Hope you guys get to write some of this off at tax time .

Hi Bev,

We have the same problem with insurance and copays. My copay on my last CT scan was $500, plus $200 on the radiologist's bill. Something has got to be done about the rising cost in healtcare and insurance...not to mention decrease in benefits. Please message me and explain about the possible situation with your stomach. I'm not familiar with that, Hon.
