Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) Support Group

Renal cell carcinoma, also known by a gurnistical tumor, is the most common form of kidney cancer arising from the renal tubule. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. Initial therapy is with surgery. It is notoriously resistant to radiation therapy and chemotherapy, although some cases respond to immunotherapy.

I had a partial neph about a14 mos ago. It was cancer in the right kidney and a tumor outside the kidney as well. I am having a lot of back pain and just lately I have had bouts of slight urine leaking during the day and last night I had some urine escape as I was asleep. I am concerned about all this. Has anybody else experienced similar problems??
I am currently taking gabapentin for neuropathy otherwise no current meds. My next scan is coming up in March. Should I wait to see the Dr. until then??

Hi lazer,

When my husband had his surgery, he did have back pain, but that was more in the first month or so. He didn't have problems with urine leaking. It is probably a good idea to let your Oncologist or surgeon know now about what is happening rather than wait until March. This may be a side effect of your surgery and nothing to worry about, but we've learned over the 8 years of cancer survival, to have open communication with the Oncologist letting the doctor know of anything persistant or unusual.

My husband is a 11 year survivor of RCC and I agree with Linda that you should go ahead and tell your doctor. It is always better to stay ahead of problems. Good luck to you.

Hi Lenny,

i think Linda and Wanda are right and my advice is the same, you should make an appointment the sooner the better, most likely it isn't anything serious, but you'll never know if you don't have it checked.. I'm not a doctor Len, but i would make Tim do the samething as i said to you...

Let us know what the doctor tells you, we all care and love you very much..

Hi Lazer, I have had the urine squirts for years because of having too many big headed babies :) so I understand your concern I think that you should tell your doc about it though and not wait. It is best in our case to be proactive on any changes. I know that I have e-mailed both my surgeon and urologist multiple times since my surgery last month and I plan on doing so between my checks if I think something is wierd. Just call and mention it! Yes - as the others said, you should call the doctor. That way if there is anything he/she wants you to do now, or if you should be seen in the office prior to March, you are on top of things. It will also put your mind at ease just in case it continues........

I had mild back pain before my kidney was removed and my back pain is severe and now I have the opposite problem of you....I cant pee. I retain 300cc of urine which is about 1/3 or so of the bladder. I am sorry about your problem but i am happy to hear someone has the same problems
