I hope your scan turns out ok. I was diagnosed a few months ago and was real scared, just like you. I recently had surgery and am now cancer free, Try to stay positive I'm sure you can beat this.

HI gfisher, hope your scan shows no mets to your organs. I know this is very scary but there is hope. I have been diagnosed RCC 6 years ago, had surgery twice and i have been cancer free for while but now i am on Sutent for the last two years and its been very effective. Be strong and stay positive, we can beat this.

gfisher - How did everything go? I have found out through experience that one of the worst things you can do is to keep the diagnosis of this disease from others. Everyone will know something is wrong no matter how you think you've got it covered.Share with those that love you and are close to you. This is definitely not a "one man" journey, you need the love and support of family and friends.I was diagnosed in 2006 and I'm still here. Full right, partial left with met to the lung, open-heart, and did you get that part where I said "I'M STILL HERE". Yes, I still have a small spot on my lung and left kidney but they have been stable with treatment of Sutent, an oral chemo. It's a roller coaster at times, no doubt about about it. With this disease (cancer in general) it is my opinion that you are never "cured" but are in remission which should also be music to your ears. Have faith in your doctor and God,hold your loved ones tight and you will be just fine.

I'm going through the same as my mother will need open surgery for a very large tumor, not spread to the lungs. The problem is she is 84 but otherwise healthy. The doctors are worried about post surgery. Has anyone had the open removal or known anyone older with this disease. Thank you Marsh

I am coming up on 5 years after partial kidney removal. I found telling my wife gave me support, this is something that I feel you need a network of friends, family, and site members to help support. My Children are 8 and 11, we did not tell them as they were 3 and 6 at the time, someday I will to show them there is quality life after this diagnosis.

Did you have any back pain or numb foot with this? I am having pain in my right back area and a numb foot. No scans yet. Any recommendations. Thanks

Well to answer the last post. No I have no pains or numbness. Its really strange my oncologist says.. He says I dont show any signs of the renal cell carcinoma.. However I do still have my 15 cm tumor along my femur fracture and i also have a 7 cm tumor in my kidney. I have been on Nexavar since January ans do far the meds have stopped any further growth which is good. Now the dr wants to do some radiation on my femur in a couple weeks to see if there may be some shrinkage. I am grateful and I am no longer afraid. I have learned to be strong and my family is aware now. I am also grateful that I am still able to get to work and still provide for my family. I do have hope. I pray and know god is in control. I will continue to fight no matter what and I will be like some of you and become cancer free. We will get thru this. Thank you all for the comments. They really mean a lot to me. and I am also wanting to know how you are coping as well. Take care my friends and now I will keep in touch and continue to leave updates. I keep thinking surgery is coming but I will just take one day at a time. I love you all. gf

Awww that's awful.. I hope they find an answer soon. I know the dr said the kidney pain in the back could be the kidney itself and he keeps asking me if I have any pain.. I don't tho.. he says Good! Perhaps it's the kidney causing the pain.. are you diabetic? My feet are numb also but it's from diabetes.. keep in touch..
