I get the feeling that some people don't believe I was raped. It's really difficult because when I try to open up to a friend for support, they don't take it seriously. Maybe they don't care. Maybe they think I'm lying. I don't know.I don't want to go through this alone, but I am because no one cares. Does anyone have any advice?

i'm so sorry that that happened to you....when i told my parents they ddin't believe me because my rapist didn't leave any marks, i didn't wanna go to the police and i didn't tell them until a year later......it really hurts when you go through a rape and people don't beleive you....i don't know why anyone would lie about this, but i guess some people do....but that still doesn't mean that you shouldn't get the validation that you deserve......a lot of the time friends and family don't wanna beleive what happened to you so they'll try and laugh it off or dsitract us from what happened as a form of denial......it's damaging to us and makes our healing process even more painful......if i were you i would see a therapist.....school therapists and good but a professional one who speicalizes in rape or trauma work would be better.....a local rape crisis center might be good.....they probably have free counseling sessions....therapists are great becasue they believe you and that way you have at least one personwho has your back no matter how crazy your story sounds.....the first thing my therapist said to me after i told her in full detail my story was,"wow...okay, val, i just wanna let you know that i beleive ALL my clients and i will always be here for you" and it felt soooo nice to have someone be there for me.....and here on DS we'll always believe you....if you ever wanna talk, i'm here

I am so sorry people are treating you like that. Could it be they believe you but don't know what to say? Honestly as much as it hurts that you don't have their support you know what happenned and you need to start the process of healing. I would go to a therapist and or join a support group with other survivors of rape. It may help to have other people who have been through it to talk to. Reaching out here is a great step too. It is horrible not to believed after something so tramatic has happened to you.

Rape is an extremely difficult subject for people to talk about. Most people would rather believe in fairies and unicorns than to discuss something as horrible as rape. You are probably really good at not letting your pain show also. Or, maybe one of them was abused and just can't talk about it. Regardless of the reason, it's probably not a good idea to talk to them about it. Find a support group to vent or maybe a new friend to talk to.
