I was just wondering how others have coped with what happened to them? Like what are some of the things you have done? Positive and/or negative things. For me, the positives would be running to relieve stress, getting involved in more things to keep busy, writing in a journal. My negatives are what get me though. I have lied to people about my abuse, completely changed details of attacks, I've struggled with an eating disorder. I wish I could take all the negative things back, and I wish others would understand that I'm not a bad person, I'm just trying to deal with a bad situation and I don't know how.

the negative things that i've done to cope are self injure, had an affair with a guy who was engaged, had sex with a guy that i knew in high school, and surpressed it.....the positives are way better and helped a lot more....therapy-still in it and very happy that i am-, writing stories, writing in my journal, talk to friends about it, cry, squeeze a stressball, listen to music, and do word searches......i think the negative things were kind oif just the first thing i thought of....i didn't know what else to do after i was raped.....glad you're doing healthy things to help you cope :)

My positive has been talking to my therapist. I had hidden my rape for over 30 years and then it exploded out after I suffered another tramatic event. It is not good to hold it in. I have just recently been able to call it rape. I did not want to use the word. The bad things I did were having sex with the boys I dated not because I was emotionally ready but just to see if it would be normal. Not a good idea as I always felt shame right in the middle and I tightened up like a board. I have not been able to talk to anyone else about the rape except my therapist and now here. This forum has been good for me. I think writting is a big help. So keep up the writing and exercise helps with depression. As well as Good eating, Good sleep, Purpose, good freinds. These are the things my therapist has me work on and it seems to help.

Positive: coming here. Joined a gym, worked with a personal trainer and focused on healthy eating. But now with kids I don't have time for the gym. Negative: not coming here enough, avoiding suppressing it. The first year after it happened I started binge drinking.

Negative I've pushed everyone away, become absolutely terrified of sex and anything related to it, including children. I went to the police about what happened but they refused to even question him, so I kind of beat myself up a lot. I almost lost my faith over it because between my new school's obsession with traditional gender roles and being raped, I became convinced that God has it in for me because I am a woman. The positives, I run, paint, travel, switched schools and majors, and distract myself by trying to teach myself a second language. Neutral, I watch a lot of YouTube and lately have been reading a lot of books about travelling and that affirm God doesn't hate me because I am female.
