A 17-year-old Indiana girl found slain in her bedroom was sexually assaulted before she was murdered, prosecutors say. Tara Willenborg, of Clarksville, was pronounced dead on Saturday after her fiance discovered her body early that morning in the couple's apartment, WDRB reports. On Sunday, about a mile from the crime scene, police arrested 49-year-old Richard Hooten, a convicted sex offender with an unrelated warrant out for his arrest.
Clark County Prosecutor Steve Stewart was preparing charges for the case. "Obviously, this girl suffered a horrible death. In addition to a murder charge, we certainly anticipate charges of rape and/or criminal deviant conduct," Stewart told the News and Tribune. Willenborg's fiance discovered her body in their apartment. Willenberg's father told WDRB that she was a former Jeffersonville High School cross-country athlete and had just earned her GED two weeks ago.

The cause of death has been determined for a 17-year-old found dead in her apartment. The Clark County Coroner said Tara Willenborg died from asphyxia, pending toxicology results and the medical examiner's complete report. Police said Willenborg was found murdered early Saturday morning 700 block of Camden Court.
Detective Darrell Rayborn said police received a call from the victim's boyfriend after he found her dead inside her bedroom at Cambridge Square Apartments on Camden Drive in Clarksville.
Clark County Prosecutor Jeremy Mull said Willenborg was sexually assaulted before she was killed. Thanks to some information from neighbors, police picked up Richard Hooten, 49, a few hours later and charged him with murder. Investigators found him walking on foot down Eastern Boulevard about a mile from the crime scene. According to the Indiana Sex Offender Registry, Hooten is convicted sex offender and there was warrant out for his arrest.
Investigators said Hooten and the teen were acquaintances who recently had met. According to the database, he was convicted of sexual battery and residential entry last year. Police said it appeared the teen put up a fight before she was killed.

It is nice to see that you are committed to raising the awareness of others. It may not be this person, but there are numerous PREDATORS out there. We the women, sisters, mothers, children need to protect our selves. Learn how to defend yourself. Carry MACE , carry a small compact knife, so if you get attacked you can fight back. I understand there are circumstances that we cannot, I was raped my knife point. I wish I could have hurt him with one blow, if it meant my death or not at least I know I would have fought back. My attacker has never been caught and yes it haunts me. Let's fight back protect our-self's. Take self defense courses. I have it won't happen to me again without someone getting hurt. We do nothing wrong , and neither has any other victim. So let's stand tall and say we will not allow PREDATORS to take over. Every day in Canada and USA there are 10 women Raped or assaulted.
