Basically, if the test is negative 2 months after exposure, you don't have HIV.

The confusion comes because modern HIV retro-viral treatments reduce the viral level to an undetectable level for years. BUT this with treatment. Untreated, the virus is clearly and reliably detectable in a matter of weeks.

Had you had any STIs (of any sort) when they did the tests during pregnancy, you wound have been told and offered treatment. They only don't notify you of a negative result.

Bottom like: You don't have AIDS / HIV or any other STI. Relax and get on with your life.

I was raped anally and unsafely by a bunch of men in the mid-80s when AIDS was new. I went through the same terror you are feeling. All I can say is the odds that you got it are very small, and only getting tested can make you feel better. It will be scary when you go in for the results, but either way you want to know. You're scared now, right? So the only way you won't be scared is to get a negative result.

Is it possible for the body to fight off an HIV infection successfully when one is first exposed? If so, would this not result in anti-bodies to HIV that could cause a positive ELISA test even though you don't have HIV?

You don't have AIDS. If u got tested for everything including AIDS 2 years after the rape, u r still negative. U dont have it. Here's why. The AIDS tests they have been using the past 15 years now are the ones that detect the HIV virus within 8 weeks after you may have been exposure to AIDS. It's not even necessary to come back 6 months later, like it use to be, to be retested, if u are negative after 8 weeks of possible exposure. I wouldnt worry about it. So stop freakin out. U r driving yourself insane. Ditch the fear.
As far as being tested for AIDS because of pregnancy, A rule of thumb in medical offices is, "if u r negative, the doctors offices do not call u. Unless u tell them to call u either way. Believe me, if u were positive for AIDS and pregnant, your phone would be ringing off the hook by your doctor until he got u in his office. That did not happen. So chill. U do not have AIDS.
AIDS is "not" as easily caught as a lot of people think. The exposure has to be blood to blood contact. The same as contacting Hepititis C has to be a blood to blood contact. And do u know if u r using condoms to prevent u from getting AIDS, the condoms are not working on that because the size of the AIDS virus molecules are much much smaller than the size of the latex / rubber non latex condom material, even if he doubles up on the condom. Which means if u have sex with someone with AIDS and he wears a condom, r u getting ZERO protection from AIDS. So I would think about that. If u r gonna have sex, make sure before u do, the guy shows u in writting his current test results for every sexually transmitted disease including his AIDS test results. If he refuses, send him out the door, dont sleep with him because chances r he is hiding something.

I understand exactly what u r going thru. I have been raped several times in my life by different men, and trapped in my own home for almost a years raped on almost a daily basis. I use to freak out too. i'd go to the doctor every 6 months to get tested. Finally my doctor had had it with me and he said, "I'm not doin this anymore. You're negative and u have always been negative". I said ok. Well 8 years ago during a nervous breakdown and the flashbacks, back to the doctor i went. I demanded to be tested. And i freaked out for nothin. My results have always been negative. And it sounds like yours is too.
