In January of 2009 my boyfriend and I got engaged. We had been friends since I was a freshman in High School and we had been dating for a while. At that point in the relationship I thought everything was pretty perfect. He was very sweet and attentive. But then things started to change.
At first it was little fights. But it got worse and worse. It turned into physical and emotional abuse. He thought that because I had a ring on my finger he owned me.
Well one night i was really tired and I wanted to go to bed but he wanted sex. I told him no. I was tired and I didn't feel good. He picked a fight with me over it. telling me i didn't love him. I just laid down and tried to go to sleep. Next thing I know he was on top of me ripping my underwear off of me. I tried to fight him. I kept telling him no. And he just said "I can have sex with my own Fiance!".
Finally I gave up fighting. He continued while I cried. And then after he was done he just said "See, that was all you had to do and we could have avoided all of that". Then he made me cuddle with him while he fell asleep. I continued to cry silently till i finally fell asleep.
This happened multiple times. I finally got out in October of 2009. It took a long time before I could admit to myself that my relationship was abusive and that i was in fact raped. And because of that I am still dealing with a lot of the pain. I am having nightmares where I am reliving the incidents. I'm fairly certain I have a depression problem as well. I go through periods where i can't sleep and then periods where i sleep a ton. I just don't know what to do anymore. My family doesn't know anything about what happened. I just can't tell them. I feel so alone with all of this.

i'm so sorry that this happened to you.....if i were you i would probably seek out a counselor/therapist.....depression is a serious problem and can cause many bad thoughts and can really effect your health if not treated properly.....see your doctor as well and tell her that you think you may have depression......if the depression started AFTER the rape, youm ya have to tell ehr aboutthat as well.....i'm glad that you got out of the realtionship and i think this is a great support group/site for you to be on.....and as hard as it may be, you need to tell your family.....i told my parents on their anniversary a year after it happened.....it made me feel really bad, but i had to do it.......and as long as you have DS you're NOT alone....if you ever need osmeone to talk to i' here for you!!!!!!!!!!

I have had this happen to me and it is so amazing what damage can be done when someone you love takes your power away like this with no regard to you. I am so so sorry. Please try and seek a professional to talk to. Believe me when I tell you it can carry over into your next relationship. I cant explain why, but there is a trust barrier broken. Keeping you in my thoughts, hun.

I am in a relationship now. It has been a challenge but my boyfriend is very sweet and understanding. He knows I've been through a lot. He knows pretty much everything that happened now. He is the only one though.
