I don't think a day goes by when I don't think about my rape.
I'm waiting to wake up one morning and not have it be the first thing on my mind. It's been a year since I was raped and the memory never seems to fade. Does it ever get any better?

I pray that you will soon be able to overcome the influence of this awful experience. I hope that you are actively receiving professional services to cope with this matter. The mind can surely be a pitfall and in a dark cloud after this abuse has happened. However, you still have a very strong backbone and that is what has encouraged you to ask this question. Yes, it can get better. But you must work hard towards recovery. Try hard to replace challenging thoughts with less complicated ones on a daily basis. Develop a new skill or find a craft to distract your attention away from sadness and anger. Spend more time with people you love and trust. Specifically, keep busy! And try not to feel sorry for yourself. It is the offender that needs pity, not you for yourself. And I know that it is comforting at times to feel helpless, but try hard to move pass those moments. The emotionally crippling effect will soon fade as you move closer to the stronger power you hold within you to heal, just find and nurture your strong self. God bless you and I leave you my blessings on all that you strive for your relief and sound coping needs.

It's been 6 years since it happened to me. I don't think about it everyday. Probably more like every other day but it ruins my days less and less. I don't live in the city where it happened anymore. I know that helps me.
