I don't understand... why can't I talk about my rapes and be completely honest about them? whenever I start to describe things that have happened to me, I change things. I will combine different times I were raped and put it all together into one because then it somehow changes the truth. I have told someone the truth about one of my rapes, not changing any details, and it was really hard. After that I experienced my first flashback and I couldn't get the assualt out of my head for days. After that is when I started to change details in my story when I talked about it. Now, the people who I love the most hate me for "lying". They have completely shut me out of their lives and are punishing me for it by keeping me away from them. They were my family, not by blood, but a group of people who I loved more than blood. I know what I did was wrong and I tried so hard to stop so many times, but I just couldn't. I had to change details about my rapes when I talked about them.. things like the color of my clothes, the location, the time of day, etc. I'm trying so hard to explain the way I felt to the people who shut me out because of this, but they won't hear it. They keep saying I am just trying to get people to feel sorry for me.. but I'm not. They say that I am the only one who did something wrong, and I shouldn't be mad at them for not wanting me around anymore. My therapist says that I only changed details to protect myself, because I couldn't handle the truth at the time.I never meant to hurt anyone and I feel like such a terrible person now. Am I wrong? Am I a bad person, like these people are making me feel? Is there any way that I can possibly explain how I felt to people who don't understand anything about victims of abuse? I just feel so terrible :(

People who have never been in our shoes dont understand and sometimes they dont want to hear because they dont know what to say..they feel like they are going to say something wrong... and others just dont care... I know how u feel I am there... Those are not friends if they tell you it's your fault.. You are not wrong and you are NOT a bad person.. DONT ever make yourself feel like you are the bad person... I would write them a letter and tell them how u feel... I had my husband go to one of my sessions with me.. it has helped him some to understand more without feeling bad.. God knows he loves me and I dont like to see him looking all sorry for me.. If your friends dont understand that you sometimes have to talk about it to help cope then they are no real friends.. I would suggest maybe get into a support group like you have here but one that is face to face meet people who have been thru what you have been thru and who can better relate to your situation... I am blessed with a wounderful husband and a friend who understands these things..If you ever feel you need to talk please feel free to message me.. I am here for you.. God Bless hun.. I check this site often..as it helps me deal with it better and to see some of the stories and know that I am not the only one who feels this way.

I dont htink its fair to say people who havnt been through this dont understand. I myself am on this site to learn and help/support my wife. She was raped as a small child and sexually abused by two others. I understand not wanting to tell the whole truth...it s a way to protect yourself. And to be honest if it makes you feel better how is it a bad thing? Sometimes people who have been so traumatized just cant deal with the mental toutures. YOU are NOT a bad person for doing this and it is completely normal. If your friends love you as much as you love them they should understand. Try to explain to them how hard it is for you and how sometimes changing the details makes you feel better about what happened. I have been with my wife for 10 years and up until 6 months ago she always told me her rape ( that lasted over a period of 3 years when she was 6years old) never effected her. She always said she wasnt one of those people who was going to use there past to be a victim. I feel stupid sometimes for not seeing the truth but it is what it is and she isnt a bad person for lying to me. Stay strong and if they love you they will do what they can to understand you and this horrible trauma that happned to you. Stay strong :)
