I read about post tramatic stress disorder and i was wondering if everyone who gets raped goes through it? Rape is a tramatic event and Ive suffered through some of the symptoms, after the rape i couldn't get the smell of him off of my coat and even now if i smell something similar I remember. Whenever someones talks about rape i think about my situation and whenever i see him it brings back memories and i get instantly hot and my hands feel sweaty. So i was wondering if everyone who gets raped suffers through ptsd and do you ever get over it?

Everyone is different, their mental state, emotional and all other ways are taken into consideration. I never thought I had PTSD, but I do. My behavior was affected asap after it happened, it changed me and it set the sexual experience I would enjoy for the rest of my life. But, if your honest with yourself, and those around you...it will all work out.

Like Melissa said, everyone is different. There are many factors that determine who is more at risk for ptsd than someone else. I think everyone who goes through anything as traumatic as tape would have to go through the acute stress response directly afterward, but I've read that that part only usually impacts a persons life for a month or two. After that it might be ptsd. I happen to be one of the unlucky ones who got ptsd. It's only six months since I was raped, and people tell me that that's still very early in the healing process, so I can't tell if I'll 'get over it' or not. The ptsd has changed pretty much every area of my life. I hope this answered some of your questions, even if I am a newbie.

i have PTSD.......but everyone is different.....some people have it, some don't.......it's best not to self diagnose yourself with it......it's better to have a doctor or a therapist/counselor diagnose it for you.....i had no idea that i had PTSD until my therapist told me....as for "getting over it" i'm in therapy for a number on reasons and my PTSD is something that we're working on......it kicks into gear a lot more when my anniversaries are near.....
