By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

I had a massive bi-lateral PE march 2010. I slowly regain, my walks with my dog. A friend asked to join us today, she is 8 or so years younger than I am. I could of kicked her butt walking. I was worried about being able to keep up with her. I had to slow my pace. I could of walked much longer..and faster. For all the newbies..there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for putting the light out there! I am 8 months out and still struggling with the exhaustion - and learned to sit/lay down when I need to, and then pick up and carry on. Great to hear you beat this! Congrats!

Glad to hear it! :) I remember after leaving the hospital I could not walk longer than 5-10 minutes, and at a snail's pace. Six months later I walk at a normal brisk pace for 30-35 minutes :)

@ Ferr,
My coworkers and I found out a coworker had ALS shortly after I had my PE. Yes, I whined about my INR, and being tried during the year, however, I never felt I had a right to complain too much when Lucy had ALS. (She passed on last month. ) There are worst things in life than a PE.

It's a good day for me to be reminded that there are worse things than PEs. This would have been my wedding anniversary today if Don had not died from pancreatic cancer. That was the worst thing I had ever seen and I was his caregiver for 18 months.

I am now 15 months out with bilateral large clots which are still embedded in the lungs - and may always be I'm told. I tire easily but I am riding the stationery bike longer than I could months ago. My walking has not improved but I have stenosis too so that's a factor.

In terms of attitude, I am much more positive than I was last year at this time and I do believe we can all find light at the end of the tunnel if we are patient enough and work at it.

Yep I had my first semi human feeling day so far I had my PE march 12th and just now feeling somewhat normal. Meechelle

I went hiking this morning. 9000 feet altitude, snow and cold wind and I actually feel OK now! I had to rest a lot and I was breathing out of my mouth and we didn't summit (well, because the trail disappeared under the snow, not because of my lungs), but it felt like I finally got to do something fun again! Feeling like I'm on my way back!
