By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
Particularly regarding any back pain that appeared or got worse with Xarelto.

I've finally watched and read enough about the new anti-coags to feel safe enough to ask my doc for Xarelto which is just one of the new ones. GASP (I never take new meds, no matter what, because the lack of history of that new med.)
I'm a lifer.
I had good success with Coumadin and it's dietary restrictions in keeping within INR range with Coumadin. But Coumadin's long list of no-no meds, foods etc prompted me to switch off.
Of course there's no such thing as a free lunch, which means that my back pain (always there) has gotten worse. And lo and behold, that's one of the side effects of Xarelto. Sigh.
No drug is free of side effects, I know. But I'm wondering if anyone else that's tried one of the new anti-coags have had back pain appear or get worse and have that side effect go away after a while. I take a pain med for my back pain and I REALLY don't want to take more.
I've searched this forum for references to Xarelto and there's a barrel of them and can't say I will take the time to read them all.
