I am on anti-anxiety meds. they do help. it takes awhile to get them adjusted. I'm on paxil cr. It has been 5 years since my pe and i've been on these meds for 2 years.

i have been on Zoloft for anxiety for over a year, before my whole PE experience. They do help but you must give them time..at least 6 weeks.

I am on anti-depressants unfortunately...well am currently have a break as my doctor requested, as ive had a few problems with them. I'm trying a new tablet next week.

I was prescribed citalopram, but after a month and a half, my dr and i decided that that was just making my lack of sleep worse! I wasnt hardly sleeping at all.

I was then prescribed Mirtazapine...but i had some really bad side effects on that! So, I've had a few weeks break...which has been tough. My mood wasnt brilliant while i was on the tablets, but this week i have been overcome by so many emotions!

So...next week, we'll see what happens, but hopefully i'll have some luck with the next tablet. Hope that helps x

have been on zoloft for a week and not seeing anything so knowing it takes a few weeks is helpful.
I was on cymbalta right before surgery and thougt that helped but this dr wanted zoloft.

So here's a question? Why does it seem so many of us are on them? Is it b/c we are scared of reoccurences? I was okay after PE, but then had 3 deaths in the family and it just became too much for me.

stacijos, I have considered the anti depressants due to my anxiety and mood post pe. I have found it so hard to handle the minor things in life bc I am so fustrated with my health. I am fighting to not take them...bc as stubborn as this may seem the only pill I ever decided to take to make my quality of life better was the BC pill which did the complete and total opposite, hence my pe. So I have some anti anxiety meds that I havnt taken in months bc I hate medication... I just want to be abe to work through my problems in life without medication as much as possible.

I had my PE's\DVT's 2 years ago and I've been on Effexor Xr for a little over a year now. It has helped, I do have periods where I feel like my old self again but then I start to dwell on it again and I get depressed and fearful again. I think we all just have come to understand how fragile life is and we're afraid of losing ours. My therapist told me I should rejoice and LIVE each day and not sit around and thnk about dying all the time but that's hard to do when you're doing it, you know? I have to get mean with myself and kick myself in the ass and say "STOP thinking like that...Look for the good in the day!!

My Dr gave me a script for zanex a 2 week supply, they worked but he also would not give me a refill. So I have had to deal with my anxiety in other ways, long walks, bike rides, wine aways calms me down. and thats ok i dont want to deal with the side affects or a withdrawal from anything. ps i have never been on any anti anxiety before, there are days when it would be a good idea .

I take Prozac for depression and PTSD. I also take Topamax which is a mood stabilizer for people who have a depression dx co-morbid with PTSD. I also take Vistaril for anxiety.

i have been on anti depressants before my PE and I think it helps with all of this anxiety. But you have to give all anti depressants TIME!! they all take about 6 weeks to even start working. it takes awhile for your chemicals in your brain to be right. if these dont seem to help please seek counseling I have found this helps for everything as well.

Hi all, Been on lots of different kinds. Have had depression for 7 years, been off at times. I am currently on Efferor XR, hoping to decrease the dose soon. I started on a low dose of Seraquil for sleep -25mg, which is working great. I am having some pissed off and sad times lately with what is going on in my life, but my depression is under control. I have a history of Depression and Anxiety before the PE! Diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (ironically- SAD :) LOL.....as well as a Compulsive Overeating Disorder. In the past I have been on Prozac for Depression/Anxiety, Trazadone for insomnia, and Concerta to wake me up and give me a shove out the door in the morning :)

Psychotropic medications can be tricky. Not everything will work for everyone. And I also had a hard time remembering to take them...

I read with shock and sadness how many of you are on anti depressants and other medications. I too have struggled since my PE with anxiety and sleeplessness. But, I get on my knees and pray for the Lord to take away all my fear and anxiety. Also, just reading on this site that all my symptoms are what everyone else is experiencing helps relax my fears. I take 5 mg of Coumadin daily and vitamins and I pray without ceasing.

I'm not so keen on taking anything thats mood altering. I'm even a bit afraid to take my perscribed vicodin because on it side effects, but the last few weeks have been hard to deal. I can't sleep. I wake myself up in the night yelling with crazy nightmares. Most of the time I can even remember what I was dreaming. I just spent half and hour on the phone bauling while I tried to explain a billing mix up to an insurance appeals rep. My mood is all over. I get easily frustrated and upset over small things. Healthwise I'm doing fine, mental health not so great.

Part of this could be I'm tired from not sleeping, part of this could be I went of my bc pills. And part I'm stressed over work, bills, I had a car accident (not my fault) And had a psyco co-worker come yell at me for being mean to his girlfriend. But I'm making a appointment with a councilor next week. I think talking my life out with a neutral party might be all I need. But if a anti anxiety drug helps then I'll try that too.

I am still thinking about filling my LexiPro anti anxiety prevention meds for chronic anxiety. I should probably try it. a couple Zanax 25mg really help for the few days out of the week that I go to that funky PE recovery stress zone.
