Hi,

I currently have had about 5 of these on my right leg. Each one is about an inch in diameter and goes through the full thickness of my skin and they ooze water and gunk all the time. And they have been there for the last few months and show no sign of healing. Over Christmas the got infected and I've been on IV antibiotics all week.

And they hurt like hell.

If you do have them you need to get someone who is skilled eith ulcers as quickly as possible. Don't let them run out of control.

Here's info from the Cleveland Clinic. If it's an ulcer vs a dry skin patch which you can get on a DVT leg, I'd have your doc look at it.

Thanks for the info. I had this thing since my diagnosis in November. I went to a dermatologist and they didn't quite know what it was so they took a biopsy of it (possible skin cancer). But, I did some looking around on the web and discovered this skin ulcer that can occur on people with a history of DVTs. So far, I have one on my upper leg.
We shall see. I'll keep you posted on this.

I thought these types of ulcers resulting from DVT are located on the lower part of the leg, not on the thigh.

I know and that is why I need to get this confirmed with the Dermatologist. About eight years ago I ruptured two lower discs in my back and this caused my left upper thigh (front of leg) to lose feeling (nerve damage). I think that may have something to do with it, but I'm only speculating now. Thanks for your responses.

I wouldn't wait too long. You have to be sure it's not something more serious like cellulitis or some other kind of bacterial infection. It's probably not that and I'm normally not a freak out and go to the doctor kind of person but for that, I'd be at least see your GP if you can't get into a dermatologist right away.

I would tend to agree that whether it's a venous stasis ulcer or not, you probably need to see a doctor, and depending how long it will take you to see the dermatologist, I personally might want to see my GP if it's going to be awhile waiting for the other. As Debs said earlier, even if this is a venous stasis ulcer you want to see someone quickly so as to know how to care for it properly. Because of the location of it I tend to think that's not what it is, also my dad has one and honestly we could tell for months that it was forming under the skin before it broke through the skin. But in any case, obviously you've got something going on, and it's always better to have prompt attention. Please let us know what you find out, and I hope it's something that will heal.

Well, I did show my Doctor the sore. He looked at it and said, "it looks like it's healing." He did not seem to think it was a major problem. I did tell him that I had a biopsy done on it two weeks ago and that I was going to the Dermatologist on the 7th. It's very strange because when I research the information, the literature notes that these ulcers appear on the lower leg below the knee, however, mine is on the lower quadriceps of my left leg. Well, we shall see. I'll find out on Tuesday.
