By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Use of topical pain creams

Are they safe to use when on blood thinners?

Hard to say. Might depend on the cream and might depend on you.

First thing would be to give your pharmacist a call and ask if there are known interactions. You might also consult your doc. Then, if you decide to try it, you might keep an eye on your INR for a while, just to see. Some folks react differently to these things, so maybe you'll have an interaction when someone else might not.

Pays to be cautious, but it also pays to know what you can use without worry.

I used a prescribed one for tendonitis and it had a warning that it could cause internal bleeding, but my doc said the risk is FAR less than an oral NSAID.

I would check with your pharmacist or doctor.

When I checked with my pharmacist I was told that I could not use the topical pain creams. I tried to get him to change his mind but he wouldn't back down :)

I used topical pain creams with the ok of my doctor the entire time I was on warfarin. I never had any problems, but like everyone else has mentioned, always best to check with your own doc or pharmacist!

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
