By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Tachycardia after PE

Curious if anyone else had/is having a similar experience... Before I was diagnosed (4 months ago) my heart rate was elevated for a few months. I was put on metoprolol (beta blocker) to slow my heart rate while in the hospital. I started on 25mg and worked up to 100mg which brought my heart rate down to 70bmp. Now for the last month or so my resting heart rate is back up to 120 and about 150 if I start moving around. I still get palpatations regularly. Anoyone else having tachycardia and palpatations continuing after being treated for their PE?

My heart rate has been up since diagnosis, and from time to time will be higher. Pre-PEs, my resting heart rate was in the low 60s if I was sitting (not sure about standing). Now my resting HR is closer to 80 sitting and about 100 standing. The jury's still out as to whether this is all PE induced or some PE, some anxiety. I never paid much attention to the difference between my sitting and standing heart rate before, and I wish I had, because I'm pretty sure the difference is quite a bit greater now. I've been meaning to ask my doc about this.

I was hospitalized at age 50 with an unprovoked DVT which led to PE in Nov 2019. Was prescribed elliquis. Genetic testing shows Factor V Leiden.

January 2021 I was again hospitalized with SVT. Started out with sudden persistent resting HR around 125 and then began jumping as high as 220 which caused me to go to the emergency room. Was prescribed 50mg metropolol.

They want me to have an ablation which is very risky with my genetic markers. No one can see a link between the two problems but I just feel there has to be a link.
