Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I had massive DVT's running from my ankle to upper thigh, so he prescribed thigh highs, at 30-40hg, which is about the most "extreme" version you can get. I'm not a very big person though so they're not very hard for me to get on, and I had to be "fitted" for them at at medical supply store.
That said, they do make a big difference. I've tried to go a day or even 1/2 day with out one on my DVT leg and I can visibly see the swelling by mid afternoon (plus it sometimes tingles, which tells me blood is pooling up). When I wear them all day, I can't see any difference between the DVT and the non-effected leg.
That's my 2cents!
