Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
They told me that I should always come back if I was worried BUT the consultant got a physio to talk to me too. Apparently when this happens it is easy to get into bad habits, and not use your whole diaphragm.
My subsequent followup wth the consultant, she talkd to me at length about how I was feeling. Thn after a few mins she said that I was taking a big breath every few mins or so - I wasn't even aware of it. I was aware of the feeling of "somene very fat sitting on my chest"
She's refererrd me to a pulmonary hypertension clinic for some "preventative stuff". She said that quite often people oresent wth severe pul. hypertension, and have quite curtailed lives, and what you can do at that stage is limited. However if you look back in their notes, they had had a PE maybe 5 years ago, ad nothing was done. I'm at that stage now, and they can do things.Gawd knows what though- I'll find out when I get my appt in 2 to 4 wks. I'll let you know what happens
