By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
At times we request a procedure (like a repeat lung perfusion scan) but the doctor won't do it.
IF the doctor would take the time to explain why he won't do it, it might clear up some confusion and perhaps also start a dialogue between patient and doctor.
Sometimes a doctor will refuse a procedure because he has to follow the medical boards mandates.
Sometimes he'll refuse because he is being cautious about repeated radiation (or whatever) and the possible dangers inherent in that for the patient.
Perhaps he had just been called out by the medical board about 'too many XX procedures'----- and that's especially true if he's connected with an HMO.
I'm not defending doctors. It's just the way of the medical establishment.
OR----- he could just be a jerk! (Plenty of those around!)

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Sometimes the tests and procedures are really expensive and while it may cost very little to the patient because of insurance, utilization makes health care costs increase for everyone in the long run. Everyone ultimately pays.
Sometimes patients don't ask why. We need to be proactive in asking doctor's why.
I will admit, the dye CT scan wasn't pleasant and I wouldn't want to do that again! (Unsure of the technical name)
