By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
I am thinking of taking a dive trip next year that is fairly remote, probably 3-4 hours to the nearest hospital. I've spoken to one of the leading blood docs in the nation (specializes in pediatric hemophilia) and she polled her colleagues, who agreed that for someone who self monitors and is stable it's not unreasonable.
Follow up question, have not yet asked her but will, is if anyone does something similar, do you take any precautions? Is there any form of prescription viatmin K shot one could carry in the event of an emergency?

I've wondered about a Vit K shot that lifers could carry (like an Epipen for folks with allergies), but I don't think any such thing exists that a normal person could get their hands on. If you find otherwise, let us all know, eh?

Sounds like you'll be in good shape with all that going for you! Better than I had living alone on a very remote ranch when everyone was off on vacation etc. (grin) No ER doc. No airplane etc.

Of course, that's me and everyone's gotta do what they're comfortable with. I'm not a self tester and right now I test pretty much once a month (unless my INR gets out of range and need to adjust my dosage). So if I'm on a 14 day trip, it's business as usual to me and I'd not be testing during that time. I'd take a first aid kit, like bandages and what not, and scope out what I'd do in an emergency which it sounds like you have done already. Other than that, I'm probably not giving it a second thought. Years ago before I was married, and prior to being on warfarin, I traveled a lot, off the beaten path stuff and by myself at times, and never had anything serious happen to me. Had I been on warfarin then, I'd have been fine. So for me, that's where I'd draw from... past experience being the predictor of future experience, as much as one can predict.
