Some people breeze through, others go through a lot of trauma. I can only speak of my experience. I skipped a period before I got diagnosed with PE, and I also had to take myself off BC, so 3rd day into my first period I filled one pad in an hour and sent myself to ER straight away. They said it was a combination of coming off the pill, skipping the period before, and my body getting used to warfarin. My next period was a breeze and was normal. I was told to expect the first period to be worse than the others!! Don't be anxious about it, take it as it comes and let it take it's course.

Never noticed a change from before warfarin to after warfarin. There are some horror stories out there, but luckily I wasn't one of them in this regard. Best wishes to you!

im currently on my 3rd one since my PEs and i havent seen any difference. mine's always been kinda heavy

I had been taking birth control with the purpose of skipping my period before I was diagnosed. I did not have a period the first 2 months after coming off birth control, so my first one was pretty bad. I went through tampons and pads like no one's business. Now that I have had a couple since then, they have leveled out some, though they are slightly heavier. I hope you are regular so you don't get taken by surprise!

Heavier than normal. You just have to learn to be VERY prepared.

I had been using the pill to skip periods, and went off it a couple of months after diagnosis. It took another couple of months to get my first period, and it was so heavy (hemorrhaging really) that I needed a transfusion and had to stop the blood thinners temporarily. My next period (on lower-dose heparin shots) was almost normal. So, I think it's true that the first one is much worse - particularly if you haven't had one in while - and after that it seems to settle down a bit. But yes...be very prepared and stock up on supplies!

I went out and bought all sorts of supplies, but all is fine. It's heavier than I when I was on the pill but not too bad. Thanks for input. Keeping fingers crossed it stays this way

When I began Coumadin treatment in December 2010, I already had super-heavy periods due to fibroids. The Coumadin turned my period into a monthly hemorrhage. I ended up needing a couple of transfusions and then regular iron infusions. Eventually my GYN put me on Lupron to stop my period - fortunately, I only had to take it for one month, I am scheduled for a hysterectomy in two weeks. For a few months there, between the fibroids and the Coumadin, my period was frightening to behold!

the first 14 months after the first pe my periods were so normal i never even thought to ask a question about potential heavy periods then bam was sitting on the porcelain god and the clots were every where every time i tried to move to get up they were on the floor all over me i think someone called it looking like a murder scene. good description. by the time my husband got me to the hospital and hour away i had lost four units of blood and had to have and emergency d@c and oblation. fortunately we were done having children and in my case it was a blessing didn't have to worry about possible accident on the birth control department.

I actually started my period the evening after I was admitted to the hospital. It was pretty heavy and I was worried. But my ICU nurse told me that unless the pad had to be changed once an hour, that I would be fine. I've continued to have very clotty, heavy menses (crime scene really IS a good description) but not to the point that I've had to go to the ER.

I just make sure to keep the overnight/heavy pads in my purse at all times, just in case "Aunt Flo" decides to make a surprise visit and deal with it as best I can.
