I've had the pneumonia shot because after my PE, my cardiologist recommended it. I do get a flu shot every year, but not because of the PE. I'm on an immunosuppressant drug so it's advised I get one.

I think it's up to you. If you typically don't get one, not sure what the value is in getting one now unless your doc thinks having the flu would be hard on you.

I got the flu shot after my PEs, and got one again this year but haven't had them regularly in the past. The flu shot is completely different every year so there is no reason you can't take it this year and never again if you want.

I can't think of any reason why getting a flu shot this year would cause you to have to get them in the future. When I was younger I worked at a company that offered employees free flu shots so I got them then, but then when I left that company I didn't get them for probably fifteen years. I have gotten them again the last couple of years because I have a heart issue now, so my doctors recommend it. But in the years I didn't get them I felt neither more nor less susceptible to the flu.

thanks for all your input, I have heard of people getting sick from the shots and its the last thing I want right now, the drs want me to have the pneumonia one for sure and would like me to get the flu shot as well, so I will get them for this year and see how things go for next year, thanks again :)

I get the flu shot every year. I've got asthma on top of having had the PEs and my doc and I just feel like it will be easier on me all around not to have the flu.

My husband doesn't get one. He got sick one year (flu-like symptoms) within a few days of having the shot, so just doesn't consider it worth it.

You can always give it a try and then never do it again, if you want.

I have always had both as I am asthmatic, and now have lung issues after the PE . I think it is wise to have both as our bodies take a battering after the clots and I am sure many of us here feel we never fully recover so we may be a little weaker and perhaps more prone to picking up flu bugs and such, so they really are just a preventative. I have had the flu jab for 15 years and have never been ill with it. It is your choice but I am sure that your doctors would not suggest it if he did not feel you needed it , hope this helps

thanks Swansea , I am planning on getting both shots soon, I do have a congestion in my lungs right now so they want to wait till that subsides and then I will get them, for peace of mind and I cant imagine having a cold and coughing right now :)
