I was also post double PE and Echo was fine but I suffered my first bout of extreme heart rate (SVT) afterwards and have had them once in a while since. I have not required meds to revert back to normal but no concrete cause has been found. Now I just wait out the episodes and they have become farther between.

I get this too! Didn't know others had it. I have been given Ativan, and it makes it go away a little quicker. I can be doing nothing, just sitting
around, and suddenly I go from 60 to 180. Nobody seems to know why. The pharmacist said it was for anxiety. I did not feel the least bit anxious when it occurred. The doctor had no answer either.
Anyone else have this?

Yes, I had this happen to me too, right after my PE (normal echo)and for about a month after. My doctor said it was due to the fact that your heart is "sensitive" after having the clots go through it on the way to the lungs. It is apparently not dangerous and it will go away after the heart fully recovers. Try not to panic when it happens, I was told to take slow, deep breaths, 5 seconds in and 5 seconds out. Do this a few times until you feel it subside. This helped me a lot as well as telling myself I am ok.

Like you Georgimonty, it happened while sitting, resting or in the middle of the night when sleeping. I do not get it at all anymore so it does get better.

I had this happen a lot the first few months after diagnosis. The first time it happened, I went back to the ER via ambulance less than 24 hours after getting discharged. They put me on an Ativan drip and it did help, even though I hadn't felt anxious until my heart rate jumped up.

In retrospect, it probably did have something to do with anxiety I hadn't dealth with yet. Ativan did help and after a while these episodes went away. Hang in there!

I have the arrythmia's too my highest was 211bpm i suggest buying a pulse ox like the ones they use on your finger, i got mine thru Walmart.com $25. makes me feel a little safer and not so crazy today i hit an all time high of 230's for about 3 mins. I saw a caridiolgist he did a 24 hr monitor on me and found atleast 4 episodes in the 24 hrs. Having the arrythmia's can cause the clots and the clots can cause the arrythmias my Dr is waiting to do a Caridiac Ablation on me, once (if) they get my coumadin to level out. Try a heart Dr see what they have to say. Meechelle

I asked a friend who is a nurse about these. She said it was probably my bodies response to feeling oxygen deprived. When your body senses a drop in oxygen, the heart kicks in to rush oxygen to other parts of the body. It does make sense.

I have understood these sporatic episodes of high heart rate as my body's response to a very serious lung injury. The heart has to pick up the slack for the injured lungs and beat stronger and faster to maintain the proper levels of oxygen in the body. In the first 3 weeks post-PEs, I went to the ER 2 times with a high heart rate that started for no apparent reason. I was given a script for Xanax and I took that a couple of times when I started in the "oh no, my heart rates high" anxiety loop that caused my heart rate to go higher and then more anxiety...Ah! I did feel better about the situation after I had an echocardiogram that showed that my heart was normal in structure and function and had not been injured. I did become sensitive to caffeine after my PEs and gave up coffee entirely and switched to de-caff tea.

I think I posted somewhere else about my HR being high quite often and they did put me on metropophol for it for about a year. Now i am pretty much normal but my resting HR is pretty high sometimes in the 130's. But it only lasts for a little while and stops. In my opinion and not to be taken as gospel or fact but I think the PE's have done a heck of a lot more to us on the inside than we know and probably will be years before any scientist figures it out. I do know that my PE's have been undiagnosed and the doctors can only guess what is causing them. One of the guesses was my heart hick ups on occasion so maybe thats why my HR is elevated at times. I know this doesn't shed any light on your having elevated HR however I don't think just an occasional rise is anything bad and may be due to anxiety, or even lack of 02 or over exertion or like me maybe a heart hick up.
