By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.

Pulmonary Hypertension

I began to feel crumby again a few weeks ago and I ended up back in the hospital on Saturday. They kept me 4 days and ended up doing a heart cath to check for heart problems as well as pulmonary hypertension. The Echo no longer showed it, but I was told by the cardiologist that it rarely shows up on an Echo. Anyway, I have mild pulmonary hypertension and the doctor's office told me that we would "discuss" it at the next visit. Anyone else left with pulmonary hypertension that did not exist prior to your PE? Just another curve I have to deal with. And it's getting old.

Good news is I am eligible to get paid for 16 weeks of work, so I can relax again.

Rings bells - I wasn't progressing after ten months post severe bilateral PE's - my exercise tolerence was poor and I was extremely tired with bouts of breathlessness. I then was referred to a pulmonary hypertension specialist in the UK I had an echo (no evidence of pulmonary hypertension on echo) then cardiac catheter which showed mild pulmonary hypertension a year on things have started to improve - Are you being cared for by a pulmonary hypertension specialist or a pulmonologist. Its much better being at the mild end of pulmonary hypertesion things - I was really scared when they mentioned pulmonary hypertension at first but now understand things could have been a lot worse. I didn't get the hypertension (I wound up with hypotension ... lucky me) but I do understand how exhausting it gets having one thing pop up after another. It's like playing that Whack-A-Mole game down at the arcade, just when you take care of one thing another pops up.

At least, if you were playing Whack-A-Mole, you'd get to bash the living daylights out of something. I think that might be very therapeutic!
