I've had pretty mild asthma since 2006. Take Qvar once a day and that is pretty much it. One of the early symptoms of my PEs was "asthma attacks" that didn't respond to my inhaler. My asthma attacks though are pretty minor with a feeling of SOB and a lot of coughing. I've never hit the point where I can't breath and a puff or two with abuterol sets me right pretty quickly.

My asthma doc has been watchful since the PEs (he's the guy who sent me to the ER in the first place), but I don't think I've gotten markedly better or worse with the asthma since the PEs. My doc has indicated that I now have two lung problems: asthma and PE, but he didn't really indicated that he thought one would be worse based on the other.


My PEs were in January of 2010, so I guess I'm further out than you are, but it hasn't really been a problem thus far.

Hi Carolyn. I had mild asthma for years prior to the PE, and had always used Ventolin if I had a flare-up or before exercise, and things were great.

Since the PE, the Ventolin doesn't seem to do much, so the doc gave me Symbicort, which makes me feel a little better, but not perfect. I'm just over 2 months since the PE, so I'm not sure if the asthma will get better over time. My clots are gone, so hopefully any connection between PE and asthma has reached its apex. Time will tell.

Let us know what your doc says.

Mine is still worse post PE. I'm a year and a half out and the clots in the lung are gone. Don't know if it is related though. Had to go to the dr. on Friday because I'm going through my rescue inhalers too fast. She doubled my advair dose and told me to start taking Singulair again. (I had dropped it because I didn't think it was doing anything.)

Mine is still primarily exercise induced but since I'm training for two weeks of cycling in Colorado, I'm doing a lot of inducing.

my asthma has gotten worse after my PE I am on advair 2x daily and ventolin as needed each day. I use it 2 to 3 times daily. I am only 2 mos. out from my PE I am still having a lot of issues due to my PE. I walk a lot at work so that is where I use my Ventolin the most I get very SOB.

My asthma/COPD are definitely worse since my PEs last Sept. I just got my first cold since the PEs, and my peak flow dropped from normally 400 to 300, and my rescue Ventolin did nothing. Dr put me on Advair for awhile, then Flovent for 2 weeks, now I am waiting for mail-order delivery of Asmanex he just ordered for me. I also find i can't breathe while walking in the oppresive heat here this time of year - it has been 100 daily for weeks, with no rain. My asthma did not bother me except for colds b4 the clots, this SOB in heat while trying to walk is very difficult to live with. I also have obstrucftive sleep apnea and use CPAP machine, it is much worse since the PEs.

I have restrictive airway disease (scarring in my lungs from pnemonia). My shortness of breath (SOB) was horrible the first week out of the hospital. My doc said it may get better when I moved due to the change in elevation...I was at 4000 ft above sealevel and now just about at sealevel. I have only had mild SOB so far. I was diagnosed June 13, discharged from the hospital June 17, moved June 23 so with that time frame who know how I will feel one month out or even 6 months out.

My doc told me t make sure I use my Advair and inhalers when needed but to also stay hydrated and rest when my body tells me too. This is all new to me and you will find everyone has an opinion and they feel their opinion is right. You know how you feel nd what is right and wrong....keep a journal of how you feel daily and discuss it with your doctor.

My PCP and asthma dr. are both on vacation this week. Did see the guy covering for my PCP. Who gave me a ct scan to rule out another pe. all is clear. I'm still coughing, and my peak flow is below were it should be. That why I'm still thinking it is asthma...
I"m trying to hang on to see my asthma dr. next week. (I take zrytec, sinulair, and advair already. I'm on presedsone now...I know there are no clots, but now thinking my lungs are just no healed up yet, and that is causing this..
Just need to vent a bit, however, I know all to well, there are worse things to have happen...this to shall pass.

We are on all the same meds. I was given a steroid shot on Monday but he didn't want to put me on oral prednisone because of the coumadin. Did your dr. say anything about that?
