Pulmonary Embolism Support Group
By far the most common form of pulmonary embolism is a thromboembolism, which occurs when a blood clot, generally a venous thrombus, becomes dislodged from its site of formation and embolizes to the arterial blood supply of one of the lungs. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, pain during breathing, and more rarely circulatory instability and death.
**The doctor in the hospital told me that even if I have another PE I'm already on warfarin and not to worry. ***
That's the common (and probably the correct) response, but it IS hard not to worry. Realistically what else would they do?
There are many posts here and elsewhere where people say they've had another PE while on warfarin. But they never (at least to my knowledge) said whether they were therapeutic or not, which would make a difference.
They also don't tell all those devilish little details about whether they were very sick (another ailment) at the time, whether they just came off a binge (!!).
So until I hear someone tell ALL the details I'll have to stay neutral on that. Even then----- do they know all the genetic ins and outs of their own body?
I don't think that the possibility is down to 0% though but that's because there's more unknown about PEs and treatment than is known.
But, for now---- you are on warfarin and that's probably the best thing.
And no there was no binging going on or anything else irregular.
They did up the amount of warfarin and move me to a range between 3.0 - 3.5, while they determined what would be the best course of action since i had no extended benefits to pay for LMWH injections which totalled $2000 / month.
@lynne..... sounds like you other health issues going on already. Realize that Pe's don't just present there own distinct symptoms. Many chest pains and such can miimick other conditions for which only doctors are truly qualified to diagnose
It's possible to clot when you're not therapeutic but it doesn't always happen. I've never clotted when my INR was below my range, and I've been as low as 1.2. And there are some people who's INR range is 1.5-2.5.
I think having a heart issue complicates things, including what symptoms are causing what, coupled with the humidity right now, and then you add a little worry and stress into the equation, and well, that's a recipe for seconding guessing everything.
